Guest guest
if you are going to use blue cohosh, also use black cohosh, it efaces the cervix Chris Bartenbach [optimist.chris] Sunday, December 29, 2002 3:19 PMherbal remedies Subject: [herbal remedies] Labor Hi! I did a little searching on the net (and my books 'cause I'm home now!) and found that one can take rasberry leaf tea; Cumin tea with a cube of raw potato in the cup!; castor oil rubbed on the belly followed by warm towels; castor oil internally that will give you the runs and blue cohosh. Unfortunatly, I can't get a hold of blue cohosh before Wednesday, which is when I will be with the pregnant woman I told you about before. Some other herbs I found were: Squaw vine (can't get it) and schisandra (can get it in bottled form). Just thought I'd let you know... I'll let you know how it goes, too. Guest guest
First of all, happy Thanksgiving to everyone! This year for Thanksgiving instead of gorging on my mom's stuffing, it looks like I am having a baby. I have been having contractions since late Tuesday night, they were about 10-20 minutes apart. On Wednesday morning I lost my mucas plug and have been losing mucas on a regular basis ever since. The mucas has been bloody. My doula suggested to really get the ball rolling I should take a small dose of castor oil. That seemed to work pretty well, my contractions moved to more like 6 minutes apart for a long time. During the night, they started getting very intense and often closer together and longer, but they weren't really regular. They might be 2 min apart, then 6 min apart, then 4 min apart, then 2 min apart again. Now it seems to have really slowed down. What gives? I want my baby! I don't want to take castor oil again though because the pain of that was even worse than my contractions, and now my poor butt is really sore. Any other suggestions? Thanks! Guest guest
YOur report indicates that the apana vata which pushes the baby out has become weaker and erratic. YOu have not mentioned when the waters broke. How big was the castor oil dose? If necessary do take a second dose, perahps half the size of the first. If you take warm liquid over it, the action may be kicked in. But take the opinion of doula too. Being on the spot, she has better wisdom than rest of the world. 1. check if your bladder is full; if bladder is full, contractions get weaker and labor becomes longer. Full bladder causes more pain in labor, difficulties in pushing out placenta and more bleeding after childbirth. Feel your lower belly, full bladder will feel like a plastic bag full of water. If pressure inside the bladder is high, the shape of the bladder becomes obvious under the skin. If strength to visit wash room does not exist, put some pillow under the butt and try urinating in a pan. If no sucess, doula should insert a catheter. 2. Try changing positions. this helps open the cervix more uniformly. standing, walking a little will make labor faster. 3. Some labors start strong, then get weaker, even seem to stop and then become strong again. stop worrying and keep doing deep breaths to relieve the tension. Tension streches the nerves and if you focus your mind in the pelvic region, contractions will start again. Labor can be more difficult when mom is afraid or tense. Slow gentle breathing, exhaling while making some sound, exhaling in puffs like in Kapalbhatti pranayama helps to restart the labor which has become slow/stopped. Labor is much similar to emptying bowels. Even after feeling that you are empty, a second visit become necessary many a time. same way labor restarts. 4. As long as urination is frequent, you are taking fluids in between, pulse is between 60 to 100, no excess bleeding, if labor goes on up to 18-24 hours (first delivery) nothing to worry. But doulas must watch for any complications. 5. You need not take castor oil again, but doula can give very light pressure massage with warm castor oil, pelvis area. This will provide the trigger necessary to restart the contractions. 6. If Doula knows how to give basti, warm sesame oil basti with a little sea salt will help. Similarly applying a little cow ghee/warm sesame oil inside the birth canal (with a finger on which condom is fitted) application will help. 7. Assume that all the members are praying for your safe childbirth. Author is glad that this group has received such a SOS message. ayurveda , " remindersofthen " <remindersofthen wrote: > > First of all, happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Guest guest
I had a similar experience with my son, with the contractions coming on strong and close together, and then they would fan out, disappear, then come back, regular. Go figure! I know it sounds unhelpful and lame, but sometimes simple meditation works. Just take a few moments to center yourself (and your baby!) and invision how you want the labor to go. I was scheduled for induction (something I was adamantly fighting against) and was determined to start on my own. Soon after I started with the meditation, my water broke early in the morning. Contractions stopped by the time I made it to the hospital, and they were readying the pitocin. I again started focusing on that baby coming out, and contractions started again, and STRONG. I delivered in about 8 hours. I think sometimes we get so caught up in our fear and frustration, and the whole " what do I do?!?! " that we forget to just center and refocus our energy. Your energy needs to be focused soley on your body and the process of labor. I can't wait to hear that your baby is finally here!
