Guest guest
Yesterday, while measuring my blood sugar level using an instrument (you prick your finger and bring the instrument in contact with the blood to read the level directly), I thought of measuring my 11-year old son's sugar level too. He seem to be quite a normal boy - healthy and neither fat nor thin. I found his blood sugar level reading of 24; this was early morning without breakfast. I was surprised at the low value; I checked again tonight two hours after dinner and the reading was 32. I am not sure what this means - are these levels normal for children? Am I mistaken in doing these tests on children? Any advice/suggestions will be appreciated. I am a bit worried. -- Gururaj Rao <honyakusha
Guest guest
I think I am answering my own question. After spending some hours on the web, I understand that the measurement of blood level sugar level for children needs to be different. For adults, the manual (in Japanese) recommended wiping the location where the prick is to be made with alcohol. I used a sterilizing tissue for this. For children, it seems that using alcohol puts the reading way off. So I hope to do it this time on the forearm without using alcohol. I have also noted that the blood sugar level for children does not change too much from those of adults, although they may be slightly lower. This is just for reference for anybody else who measures the blood sugar level of their children.
