Guest guest
1. treat constipation or any underlying bowel issue, including food sensitivities/intolerances 2. drain the liver, using bitter decongesting herbs, e.g. barberry, turmeric, fringetree, white dead nettle etc 3. use antispasmodic herbs/supplements, e.g. Ca/Mg (1:1, 1000 mg before bed), kava, black cohosh, caraway, wild yam, lobelia, cotton root etc 4. practice kegels regularly 5. destress: sleep, bvitamins, biofeedback, meditation, belly breathing, warm baths etc 6. local application of diluted (5%) peppermint or lavender oil (whoohoowee! but its all good) Caldecott todd www.toddcaldecott.com _________________________________ A friend has been diagnosed with proctalgia fugax. The best thing for this is magnesium - this can be obtained in various ways - foods that are high in magnesium are - pumpkin seeds, brazil nuts, whole grain products especially oat bran and buckwheat, quinoa, spinach, almonds, cashews, etc. - if taking a magnesium supplement it is important to take one that is easily utilized by the body like magnesium aspartates or oratates - magnesium taurinate - magnesium malate. Keep a bottle of Homeopathic magnesium (3X potency)nearby and take it as soon as the symptom arises - if the pain is overwhelming take Bach Rescue Remedy with the Homeopathic magnesium. All Vata reducing practices will help with this in the long run - one approach is organic castor oil retention enemas - 1/2 cup at night - retain this overnight if possible - keep a pad in the underwear so as not to soil the bedlinens. Heat is helpful - heating pad should be used on rectum and perineum and not on sex organs (this is very important for men) - do perineum massage with oil - this could be done in a warm bath - take warm sitz baths. Do Abhyanga massage at least five times a week emphasizing the lower regions - use a Vata pacifying (warming and strengthening)oil.Keep the bowels clear and keep Vata pacified. It is important to keep Apana vayu moving in the right direction - here is a link to an article on keeping the prana in the abdomen open and moving down - http://www.yogachicago.com/nov05/gran.shtml Dr Vinod Kumar
