The test requires collecting experience. Tantra is 98% practice, 2% theory. Origin of urine therapy is in Tantra. First try to grasp what are Rajas, Tamas and Satva guna foods. visit e.g. http://www.sivananda.org/teachings/philosophy/threegunas.html or read message 885 at ayurvedaonlien. Now for 2-3 days eat only one guna food. Thus if you choose to eat only fruits, vegetables, eat them without spices. The self urine at next morning will have only satva guna. Continue the same type of food for few days and keep taking early morning self urine too. You will see that self urine under these circumstances is also having " satva " guna, it being excess nutrition eliminated by body for the sake of balance. Now if you repeat the experiment with Rajas food and Tamas food, you can define taste, appearance, texture, smell etc of respective guna self urine. One important difference can also be noticed by allowing all these three urines to decompose and compare their smells. This will also tell why many saints were said to have sanadal like pleasant smell to their sweat! By the way, author experimented with satvik urine for few days and found that it tastes like diluted I.V. Dextrose, is colorless and odourless. Its pH was alkaline. one can infer from this that satva foods alkalize the blood. A pathologist once told this author that even semen becomes more alkaline if a person eats satvic food. Foods which add to blood or urine acidity also reduce sperm density/motility. After all urine or semen are but filtered body fluids! Perhaps that is the reason some acharyas recommend satvik foods for fertile sperms.
