Guest guest
When using a copper cup, make sure that you rinse & scrub well during washing and ensure that there are no deposits or precipitates. Copper sulphate coating of unclean vessel can make vomiting. Using a copper cup is very healthy. It purifies blood. It removes toxins from body. It is good for skin, and heart. ________________________ thank you so it is for kapha reducing. so would be it be advisable for the aging (like a health tonic) to drink it then. Guest guest
Raja, The question is answered about 3 years ago, it would be better if members search the archives using the search facility provided at group website. Please visit: http://health.ayurveda/message/2201 If you combine this with aluminimum poisoning through deodorants, cooking vessels, cookers, you can easily grasp why we should use tinned brass vessels rather than aluminium or stainless steel vessels. If one understands the working of out body from electromagnetic bioenergy principles rather than model presented by modern science, it becomes easy to understand how items having better electrical conductivity or capacity to hold charges, magnetism etc are used by body. And also why certain metals, alloys become toxic to us. But this once again is not a general principle and each case has its own eccentricities. Mercury is most toxic, but when combined with sulphur, becomes useful, to be used with caution though! If this water is taken warm, it may help reducing Kapha. If you take this under supervision, the vaidya may suggest some simple addition to this water(e.g. some spice, garlic, tulsi leaves etc, to take care of exact nature of your problems. From scientific angle, this water has a sharper quality, which means it will reach cells faster, due to its ionic nature. (electrolyte). Water is a great medicine for many of the problems. Do not drink warm if you already have some acidity, blurping or similar problems. A note of caution. water obtained by boiling metals is difficult to digest in beginning. Better contact a vaidya. All the info at ayurveda is to be ragarded as discussion/suggestion only, not a medical advise. ______ i was wondering what does a copper cup with water held over night and then drank do for the body ayurvedically. from research gathered it appears that it is kapha reducing is that correct? Guest guest
so there are no other benefits as told to my parents who just brought some vessels from india. they were told it reduces blood pressure and things of that nature. things associated with aging. I read your link but it talked about fertility. I was just hoping that they were at least given some truthful knowledge when they made the purchase. actually I just did the research for them about it being kapha reducing and I was thinking at their age (60 and over) it wouldn't be advisable to reduce kapha or would it? isn't a kapha a holding principle and as they age they will become more vata. so kapha increasing would be suggested or at least intellectually theorized to be correct? namaskar, __________ Raja G. Guest guest
This is what Dr. Vasant Lad writes in his book The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies... " Copper alleviates excess kapha and reduces fat. It is a good tonic for the liver, spleen, and lymphatic system and helps in curing anemia. To treat obesity as well as liver and spleen disorders, thoroughly wash some copper pennies and boil them in a quart of water (or boil a quart of water in a copper vessel) until half the water remains. Take 2 teaspoons of this copper water 3 times a day for a month. It is also helpful to buy a copper drinking glass, fill it every night with pure water, and drink the water in the morning. Guest guest
Copper is a common ayurvedic medicine used after purification and proper incineration. Different methods of purification and incineration is opted for different diseases. The qualities of plain copper includes removing toxins and purifying blood and scrapping kapha. We will get plenty of references and utilities of copper from books of Rasasasthra in Ayurveda. Its practical effect can be observed in clinical practice of a Rasavaidya. ____________ does it really purify the blood and remove toxins from the body? Guest guest
Drinking water stored in copper vessels is an ancient practice in India ranging from civilisations prior to Mohenjodaro & Harappa. This is because only gold, silver, copper and tin were the metals known and put to use in those times. As gold and silver wares were not affordable to the general masses even in those times, copper was the only metal used for making utensils for daily use. This has persisted till today in many households in rural areas of India. Recent scientific studies have indicated that if water is stored in copper vessels for a overnight period, the copper ions make the water sterile. There are a few references that the cholera, gastro and like wise disease causing bacteria cannot thrive in water stored in coper vessels. So much for the general health benefits, from child to the elderly. Copper is also used in many of the Ayurvedic herbo-metallo-mineral combinations in calcynated form ie bhasma (ash) form. It predominantly acts on Kapha dosha. Many times ther are mis-interpretations of this aspect. Like kapha is compared to phlegm or mucus discharge from throat and lungs. Also a query was raised that if it is Kapha reducing then whether it is beneficial in elderly people who have less Kapha and more Vata. Here it should be understood that the reference points to vitiated Kapha, which is responsible for unwanted accumulation of body matters like fat in obesity or fluid in swellings; it is responsible for obstuction in the channels like the heart arteries in CAD ( where bypass is advised) or liver channels in jaundice likewise; it is responsible for excessive slimy secretions in cough and lung infections or from intestines in colitis; it is responsible for causing glandular affections anywhere in the body and so-on-and-so-forth. I have tried to be precise and concise at the same time so that the wrong outlook may be rectified. The total discourse can take more than 10 hours to explain Kapha in its totality. Hence when we say that copper is Kapha reducing, it means that the perverted tendencies of Kapha dosha which may cause illnesses in future are kept under control. It scraps the unwanted Kapha by its Lekhan action. It does not disturb the good Kapha necessary for health balance.
