Guest guest
Hi. I am an almost 30 yr. old female music student who has been trying to find holistic ways of healing. Since high school, i have had problems with moderate acne on my face, neck, chest, back and torso. I started having problems with allergies- unsure of what- in my early 20's. I blow my nose several times a day and my eyes are generally bloodshot. I then moved to an area that's in the valley and the allergies got a little worse. I was working at a daycare for awhile and got sick 5 times in a row- all respiratory- runny nose, congested, coughing last winter. I then started school and started taking lots of vitamins. I haven't been " sick " in that way since. But my major instrument for school is voice and singing has been very difficult ever since. I saw an ear, nose and throat specialist who said that i also have gas reflux. I feel like i constantly need to clear my throat, but can't. I wake up with a sore throat every morning and i feel groggy. From time to time, i have constipation or diarrhea or abdominal pain. I get very tired after eating sometimes. I also feel bloated sometimes. I have been seeing an acupuncturist for around 6 months, with a little progress. She had me get off dairy and i have very little dairy in my diet now. I also started taking liquid multi-vitamins. I have 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar diluted with water every morning. For the past month, i have strived to have a much cleaner diet most of the time. I have been eating 2 pieces of organic fruit - an apple and a banana, a raw energy bar, some raw veggies almost every day. During the day i feel lighter. I usually have a heavier meal when i get home from school and i notice that this is when i get sleepy- usually a protein and a starch (which i just read is not good). My diet was horrible for a few years when i pretty much just ate fast food all the time. My diet is now the best it's ever been, but it doesn't seem to help as much as i thought it would. It has only been recently though. I've become so sensitive to what i eat. I am 5 foot, 3 inches and 120 pounds. I have gained about 10 pounds in the last year. My weight has fluctuated like that in the past as well. Other than the medical problems i have listed, i have not had any others my whole life except for the occasional cold or flu. I have only ever broken one bone and it healed well. I have never had surgery. Since January, i have been a pretty busy music student. I am pretty smart, but i am also fairly new at music. I used to be able to sing pretty well, but now my voice is very inconsistent, dried out and tired. It's especially hard to sing higher notes now. I have tried to provide all of the information that i believe is needed based on reading previous posts. I am interested in hearing others' opinions and if possible, getting a referral for someone who may be able to help me in the area of Louisville, Kentucky. I appreciate any help. Guest guest
Dear Christine, As per the ancient Indian holistic medical system, the Ayurvedic Medicine, there are basically qualities , called as the " Doshas " that contribute towards this constitution of body. The three Doshas are namely, Vata, Pitta and Kapha. It is also beleived that each of the " Doshas " are made up of five elements - Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. Each Dosha is made up of these five elements, however, one of these may possibly be in prominent quantities, hence imbalancing the body. For instance Vata - which is a combination of wind and air. If a body type has Vata in excess, Vata can be thrown out of balance by, for example, staying up late at night, eating dry fruit, or eating before the previous meal is digested. People with vata as their main dosha are thought to be especially susceptible to skin, neurological, and also mental diseases. This balance can however be brought in control by various ways, but mostly by the food and drinks one will intake. Hence to summarize, depending upon what body type a person is, will tell us what dosha is in excess causing an imbalance in the constitution of the body. This balance needs to be and can me maintained with the help of analysis of what food intake will help balance the body. To find out what is your body type, you may have to answer a short questionaire. This questionaire is freely available at www.ayurvedapura.com To be able to balance the dosha or the disorder in your body type, even something as simple as a tea will help create a balance, hence curing the ailment. Please take a moment to visit the website www.ayurvedapura.com to find out what teas can help you balance the disorder and helping you heal and living a healthy life. I am from India and have lived all my life using home made remedies to cure any health issues. I believe that one should first opt for natural remedies (which unfortunately we call " Alternative " ). Please let me know if this helps in any way, if not I can find out more information from our clinical director who is an Ayurvedic Practitioner and will help you with some of these problems. Hope you find the best possible remedy and feel better! Take care Jyoti Sambare Ayurveda Pura Ltd. Guest guest
Thank you Jyoti for your response. I didn't find the questionairre very helpful though. I have seen those body types before and i find that i identify with each of them in different respects, fairly equally. The questionairre said kapha, but there is much about kapha that doesn't fit me. I would appreciate it if you could talk to someone about this for me. Thank you, Christine
