Guest guest
Dear Rupali, I kind of understand what you have in mind. You can get a good interior decorator to do an ayurveda related design, but that may cost you a bomb! Quiet simply, I would suggest you the following: 1. Have open metal racks, like in a supermarket; except for a row or two to keep loose and very small products. 2. Have BRIGHT lights in your showroom, don't worry about the electric bill, you have to consider a part of it as advertisement expenses! This will work. 3. Do NOT ignore herbal and ayurvedic cosmetics! This is particularly important for three reasons - you get immediate customers, your showroom looks good with nice packs and bright light and finally a little known but important point - if you buy and promote reasonable quantity of a brand, they may oblige you with their a promoter, which you can use as your staff! So, even if the margins are less, it will add to your business. 4. You may focus on loose medicines, but please maintain quality! In the long run survival is only going to be for good service. Have a doctor, who loves Ayurveda more than money; in fact, try to get this in your blood too! It will do wonders! 5. Sandu is a reasonably good company, so is Baidyanath and Charak. Please confirm regular supply with companies whith whom you deal. Discontinuity of brands and products is NOT good for this business. 6. Important point for Advertising - Please make use of fliers (pamphlets) for distribution in the morning paper! Believe me, it works for this business. We spent loads of money on so many means, this works best for a local store! 7. Rest of your planning seems to be fine. Please have free camps etc with the help of companies. I could have maybe given a few more points, but i really don't know your budget, space and business & personal background etc. Sorry, I mailed a day late as I was a bit busy! Please feel free to revert back to me for any thing. Best of luck! May peace prevail. Hope you don't mind! Rupali Gandhi <gandhi_rupali wrote: hi Vikas Firstly thanks for the prompt reply and also tht u r ready to help me To start from, I am residing at Chembur (Mumbai) ... n have selected a place for the shop near to the station itself.. Two reasons ... 1. heavy footfall and no very close competitor, 2. Huge Maharastrian and also Gujrati crowd .. who r interested in ayur brands .. Sandu Brothers are assisting me in setting up the things (surely off the track) for the business .. we have planned for a normal camp (with session and free check up etc) with ayur Drs on the day of launch... which i have planned to b in Nov ....other than tht there will definately b some advertisments done prior to the launch ... also a Dr will be arranged on daily basis (may be 1-2 hrs) for consultation Everything wht i ve said is still on paper offcourse... now ..my problem is the interior and the advertisments ... actually i m not able to understand how shd i put down the entire store... becoz in my store apart frm basic ayur branded medicines, loose packets , and herbal cosmetics will b there my main aim will go for loose packing ... definately this will give me more revenues ... but then to sell them i ve to pull crowd first n tht will b only with the branded medicines actually i dont want my store to look n feel like a typical ayurvedic bhandar ( this is wht we call in mumbai) but shd b a brand with an appeal ... so the look and advertisments shd be the main points i ve to cater ... the basic advertisments shdn't b a probs .. but then something tht will catch the interest of the customer ....something ... may b something which u as an exp person can ans ...something to just click ..... there r more things which i want to ask but then for now if u can ans me these tht will b great Rgds Rupali
Guest guest
Hi Vikas Thts an experienced persons voice.. not flattering u.. To tell you something about myself - I ve done my grads in Biotech and PGMBA (Marketing) and was working with Ipca International as a product manager catering to antihypertensive range of brands, quitted my job in March to start my own venture in ayurvedic retailing Regarding business, personally my first venture, but my dad had a retail shop of pan- tobacco, which we sold off lately some 2-3 years back Budget - very tight, stocks will b not more than 2-3 lacs initially Store Place will b hired, things r in verbal stage hey regarding the interiors , if you dont mind wld u click some photos of ur store and mail me.. becoz as correctly said i cant afford a interior designer. I ve personally visited some ayur stores in mumbai, but all ve a typical monotonous interior (except the franchises - which i liked) So if you can upload some photos of ur store tht will b great As such I m going to keep overall all company brands, but in one store in dadar which i had visited some time back. After a word the owner, he shared with me tht the herbal cosmetic range which he had ( Biotique, Ayur etc) are giving good margins. generally how much revenues these brands give. Becoz my intention was to start off with the branded ayur and cosmetics as a base but definately switch to loose packets, which will b sold under my brand name. what do u think. Offcourse this will take time. But thts wht i have planned. any comments on this statergy Thanks in advance Rupali
