Namaste'

I'm 29 weeks pregnant, a vegetarian Doctors just performed a routine

blood test, and it came back that I'm slightly anemic. The doctor has

prescribed Ferrous Gluconate 325 mg once a day.

I'm very limited in what I can eat as I have difficulty retaining

food, I did look at what I've been eating and realized I've been

getting very limited iron.

Are there any herbal or food suggestions, that the group would

recommend. I'm trying to stay on whole cows milk and not soy milk,

lots of fruits and veggies. Whole grain breads and rice. I cook Indian

and American food.

I'm only concerned about the medicine becuase it says don't take with

or near, eggs, cereals, whole grains, dairy, coffee or tea.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

If you can take your iron with orange juice, it will absorb better. I think

the vitamin C helps make it more bioavailable.

Drakshavaleha and Gulkand are two well known tonics to take

care of heat in the blood, and also take care of deficiency of

Haemoglobin during pregnancy. (Message#6375). They will be available

through many online pharmacies. Drakshavaleha, useful for pregnant

women to stop vomits in first trimester and obtain iron for foetus

(Message 6650). Many more remedies (bhasmas) ayurveda offers, but remotely,

safety matters during pregnancy. Phal ghrut is another addition,

being suggested in case getting previous formulations difficult. Phal

ghrut upto 1 tsp in 1 glass warm milk twice a day. It gives all round

nourishment rather than iron alone.

Author wonders about your ferrous gluconate, since it is not to be

taken with proteins and dairy which are rich sources of essential amino acids

and vitamins.

6-8 dates/ 10-15 dried black grapes soaked overnight in copper water,

2-4 almonds soaked overnight are suggested at break fast time(remove almond skin

before eating0. Copper is

as much essential for generating iron as C-vitamin. See earlier

messages on copper water.

In one case Hb shot up from 7.5 to 10 with soaked dates at breakfast time in 2

weeks. Of course, the fruits in meals may also have contributed.

in north America there is a company called flora that has a very good liquid

iron supplement.

I used it along with dates and figs to bring my very low iron level back to

normal.

It is not constipating either
