Guest guest
Hi Darla… Your description definitely involves all the doshas… I suspect that the Pitta is the time of the year and poor digestion. The poor digestion has resulted into a Vata and Kapha problem… If I am right, and I can't be a 100% without a face to face and a physical, and depending on your age… you would have a Vata/Kapha problem. These can get very serous if left unattended. There are herbs such as coriander and cumin that can increase digestion without increasing Pitta. Also you should stick to a Vata Pacifying diet with the good oils externally and internally as such; and work your way up to a boot camp type of exercise program. I am usually not one to give advise on this forum because it can be fruitless or even dangerous for you… it is next to impossible to diagnose and prescribe here and get the client to follow through and therefore waste mine and their time. The forum is supposed to be for learning and not diagnosing and prescribing. I felt compelled to reply, do to the seriousness of your condition… I don't wish to scare you here, but then again maybe that's what you need… You really need to find an Ayurvedic specialist in you area and get serious if you what to live a long healthy life… If death does not scare you then how about long term suffering… You are headed in a bad direction and need to lose that weight without aggravating Vata further… and your going to need a professional to help you and make you accountable; to see that you follow through and make any changes as need… I hope this motivates you… Bless you … Noel
Guest guest
Hi Noel, Thanks. I love coriander and cumin. You are right about the health getting out of hand. I am 49 and too young have so many conditions. I do not know anyone here in South Louisiana who does ayurveda, but I will start looking around. The diet was puzzling me, because I wanted a place to start and I can never decide which dosha to pacify first. Exercise is fun, and I have a gym membership. I like the treadmill and the elliptical and just do that till I get bored. They have a bare room for classes and sometimes I go in there and do some really basic yoga, but usually there are people in there and I don't want to be in their yoga classes. They are mixing the asanas with all kinds of stuff that I don't feel comfortable with like exercise balls and a lot of the yoga does not look correct. I used to love to do the hatha yoga for many years and could easily get into headstand until 250 pounds, then after that it got impossible and probably I shouldn't until I lose more weight. I am walking a fine line with the exercise now, because when I do what I think is a good workout, then my rheumatoid arthritis gets unbearable and I end up not being able to move at all. I figure any movement is better than none, though. Actually, I find it easy to lose weight when I am sleeping and not too stressed. I read somewhere that when all the doshas are involved then the outcomes are worse. I hope not. I am taking bitter herbs for diabetes and they are making my metformin work better. Most of the dryness and such started just lately. I have been eating almost all vegetarian and got really run down and ate some meat the other day and almost instantly felt better. I think I will start carefully with a vata pacifying diet and like you said the good oils and see if that helps. My daughter is moving out soon and whenever she is gone, the weight just starts falling off of me, so that should help too. Thanks for the advice and I think recommending diet and exercise is pretty safe and generally a good idea. Guest guest
Actually, my previous reply was too much; I just realized I asked the wrong question. The right question is does anyone on the list know of any good ayurvedic practitioners around South Louisiana? Darla

Guest guest
Hi They are too far away for now, but thank you. I am thinking of moving over that way before long and it sounds like something I would both use and volunteer for. As I get older, I appreciate the herbalists more and more. Guest guest
Thanks, I am in Lafayette, and I think Houston is a little closer than New Orleans. I have been getting advice and herbs from Garry and Sun in Reno, Nevada, and the herbs are helpful and Mr. Garry is very willing to consult over the phone, but it would be nice to find something a little closer and in person. The climate here is killing me and I was raised in Louisiana. It really does seem a lot hotter and more humid now though. I remember when I was a teen, we had an attic fan that kept the whole house nice and cool at night and next to no air conditioning (in the 70's). Guest guest
Hi Darla… You need to consider doing some traveling if necessary. Maybe even spending some time at a clinic… I would do some research and maybe find someone reputable and travel if it were my health… You can always make money, and that should never come before your health. Maybe even make a vacation out of it… Go up and see Todd… he's not over seas and he is definitely one of the brightest specialists here on this list… I have actual done long distance work… but its much more time consuming and I am retired now… You need to take this seriously… You can enjoy life with health and no money but without heath life can be hell on earth… Bless you …Noel…
Guest guest
Hi Noel, I will check it out. Right now I am stuck both money and healthwise. I would adore a vacation, but just cannot afford it at all right now. I am trying to hold out until I finish my dissertation, but may not be able to, because the health is getting in the way of the writing. I do feel better since I got the stent for the heart and I feel that if I can get the arthritis under some sort of control the rest will follow. Thanks for your advice and you can believe that I do take this seriously. I am still trying to get my daughter squared away. She is bipolar and her problems are worse than mine in many ways. At least I have a mostly happy disposition. I know it sounds as if I am doing nothing but making excuses, but we are living on student loans and food stamps and my stipend as a teaching assistant, so I am trying to do what I can do for myself first then when I can manage it, go see a specialist. I worked out today and ran several errands and ate reasonably and got some work done and played with the cats and took my meds on schedule and got my daughter off the couch. It was a pretty good day. I used to be like a superwoman and very very capable; now I just do what I can and try not to stress too much. I enjoy this list because it often reminds me that my problems aren't nearly as bad as many others' and I am learning a lot from ya'll.
