Dear Vaidyas/Doctors namaste.

I am male aged 40 years, standing 170 cms tall and weighing 50 KGs.Thinly built,

perhaps Pitta oriented vata prakruthi.

I have been living with challenges of Constipation, very low

digestive-assimilation power, IBS, Hyperacidity, emaciation, weight loss etc.

for last decade or so. There have been kind flow of treatment and advises from

the Ayurvedic fraternity of Doctors. I am indebted for all those.

Presently (for last fifteen days only) I am taking medicnes as below:

1. Mixture of Avipittakkara Churna (100Gms) + Mukta shukti Bhasma (20Gms)- Two

times a day.

2. Mixture of Kamadudha-Mukta yukta ras (20 Gms) + Mukta shukti Bhasma (10Gms) +

Moti Pishti (04Gms)-Two Times a day

3. Kumaryasava-Two times a day.

With these medicines I am able to manage without any laxatives and purgatives,

or otherwise I used to take for relief from allied problems.

However still I am not able to concentrate on any thing even for few minutes. If

I do vata agravates and not allows me to continue.

In past I have been advised to take bhahmi. But I could not tolerate the same.

Several times I tried and each time I was forced to stop as it used to induce

not only distention in the belly but also headache and neck pain.

Now I am feeling I need to take some rasayana and brahmi inorder to improve my

condition and find fit myself to perform official assignment which are very

essential for apparent reasons.

My digestion has been very sluggish and I am still not taking butter milk, ghee

including all milk and milk preparations. Many a foods are not tolerated. I am

sticking to light diet including Rice, sambar, moongdal, dosa, idli and tea.

I request to guide me how can I take Brahmi or any other supplements which can

improve my mental conditions and shape me up for building mental strength.

Thanks and regards,

Mohan Hegde.

It would help if you did exercises for your 3rd chakra like abdominal

crunches and leg raises and situps.

Namaste Shri Dr.

I am thankful for your kind analysation and advise.

At the first place let me beg an apology as in my last post I gave an impression

that I am taking very large dosage of mixture of various bhasmas. Where as the

quantity mentioned are initially mixed together and divided into 60 equal part.

Such divided small part is being taken as one dose. That is, the quantity stated

forms one whole month medicine. Sorry for misleading :(

I have been checking for pathology analysis of sample of Blood and Urine

regularly and no observation made by doctors at any day as I am having low blood

sugar.

A couple of months back had been hospitalised for sole purpose of investigation.

I am attaching discharge summary of that for your kind perusal.

I am in India. Also my very limited knowledge in the terms associated with

medical field (and foreign language)are making me difficult to understand few of

the advise you have made, especially on dietary front.

I have been taking cooked green leafy vegetables along with meals with spices

like Jeera, Sounp, daniya etc. (sorry for Indian terms). have tried to include

good quantity of fibres into diet. But these are resulting in severe flatulence,

distension and more uneasiness creeps in. Majority of the vegetables are not

helping me inturn acting heavy on my system. Allopathic medicines, cremafine and

duphalac helps a bit in getting relief from evil of constipation. My challenge

has been not able to tolerate many a vegetables, food grains, pulses, coconut,

other nuts, dryfruites, fruits like banana, apple, mango, watermelon etc. Yes,

even I am not tolerating boiled eggs as well as this perhaps acts too heavy on

my digestive system.

My digestion has been very motility hit. Even with simple and light food habits,

I get flatulence, rumbling sound in belly, some times distensions and

uneasiness-headache.

Ideally half rice-half moong dal cooked together forms me a comfortable meal,

that too taken in moderate quantity. But I suffer from physical weakness and

fatigue.

When ever I take ghee (Clarified butter) half a tea spoon, that day I feel

better to get worsened with condition for few days to follow, like pain in left

lower abdomen, constipation, neck pain, headache, no appetite etc.

I have been told that Parpatti kind treatment would not help me much.

I am wondering whether going for Kaphaj-Mandagni medications, if any, can

improve my condition.

______________________________

on the balance the medication suggests a pitta problem, but for your

description your issue sounds more like vata to me

also, the dosages seem way large too large to me - i don't think i

have EVER recommended a 100 g of any herb or formula at one sitting,

let alone with five other formulas...!

Namaste Shri Guru.

Yes, I have been doing these asanas like Pavana muktasana, halasana and

pranayams- kaphalabhati, nadi shodhana regularrely for more than two years.

But when ever I introduce any new food my system starts reacting, diminishing

appetite and manifesting in form of gastric problem aggravation.

I am really wondering how can I reach a stage where in I would be able to digest

a spoonful of ghee every day.

Thanks and regards,

Mohan Hegde.

mohanji,

what happens if you eat buttermilk?

It can really help with digestion and can keep bacterial flora healthy so that

digestion is easier.

Dear Mr. Hegde,

In addition to expert advice from online friends,

I have an humble suggestion that might help solve most

of your current health problems mentioned by you.

Go back to nature. How? Please see, when there were no

houses, no agriculture and no organized civilsation,

if a person felt hungry, he used to come out of his

cave and eat whatever fruit, nuts, seeds, etc. that

one could gather.

So that was the food a person used to eat and remain

healthy and kicking. Even today, some tribals

unaffected by civilisation, can run miles and miles

without getting tired even if aged.

That is why God has asked for five types of seasonal

fruits (ritu-phals) for performing the Satyanarayana

Pooja. God naturally knew that howsoever the human

beings make progress, yet they might not understand

what is good for them. So God asked for seasonal

fruits. Once the fruits are offered in Pooja, they

become God's prasad that should not go waste but

should be eaten with reverence.

But man started deceiving God. He often brings small

size five seasonal fruits for the Pooja and makes nice

preparations of Halwa, Poori, Kheer and what not for

himself and then invites health problems because all

the well-known five white poisons like sugar, salt,

refined flour (maida), fats and what not are loaded on

to his diet that he over-eats.

Hence, when you feel like taking some breakfast, take

at least two or three seasonal fruits, if not five

prescribed by God. Say, one banana would cost one

rupee, one peru (Gauva),another rupee, some cheeku

(sapota), some mango, apple or fig as may be the

season. Even papaya is very good and cheap. Thus your

breakfast would cost you hardly four or five rupees.

I am therefore unable to understand then why people

buy costly bread and butter or prepare omlettes or

other preparations that are loaded with all the white

poisons and eat them to ultimately fall sick with many

uninvited diseases.

Having taken the breafast of seasonal fruits that are

" specially cooked by God for you " , don't eat much in

between the breakfast and lunch. Even while taking

lunch, do the same thing as you did for breakfast.

That is, eat more of seasonal salads without much

toppings except some lemon juice, a bit of salt to

taste, or a bit of fresh curd (Dahi). And, eat less of

cooked food, even if it is made at home. If you eat a

little more of salad that is again " made by God for

you " and less of food made by man, you will get all

the vitamins, minerals and even micro-nutrients in

plentiful quantities by eating more of salads and by

eating less the food made by man, you will avoid much

of the white poisons that go into man's preparation,

like salt, sugar, fats, too much of masalas or

condiments and what not. Always eat moderately so

that your stomach does not get over-loaded.

So also, follow the same rule while taking dinner. In

India, lunch and dinner are more or less alike except

for some change in vegetables, etc.

Even while picking up a sweet dish for dessert, go for

fruit salad, gajar or lauki-ka-halwa or any other

thing that contains some thing made by God like

fruits, gajar, lauki, etc. instead of taking plain

gulab-jamun or ras malai or something like that.

Now, having said so much about food, it is better to

inscribe two words " God-made food " or Food made by God

into your heart and take oath to your inner self that

you shall, given a chance, always try to eat food made

by God a little more and that made by man a little

less. That should and would solve your food problem

for life. That is because, if you get slight cold or

cough, you are constantly worried throughout the day

about what to eat and what not to, so that your

condition does not get worsened, isn't it?

My second advice is to drink plenty of water. If after

taking breakfast, tea or coffee, don't forget to drink

a glass of water after about half an hour or so. So

also, after taking lunch or dinner, please don't

forget to drink a glass of water after about half an

hour or more and repeat with another glass of water

after a similar time lag.

That will not only help improve your digestion but

also help you remain healthy throughout your life..

The more water you drink, you will have more

urination. That will keep your kidneys flushed to

avoid kidney stones, etc. It will also help keep your

blood pure and free of toxins because the more you

urinate, more toxins are flushed out from the blood.

Actually for best results, we should drink enough

water so as to produce about two liters of urine in 24

hours, irrespective of the season.

Thus, if your blood remains pure, your body will

remain pure. If your blood and body remain pure, your

mind will remain pure. If your body and mind remain

pure, your path for spiritual progress will be very

smooth and clear for further advancements.

After proper food and water, good exercise suited to

one's state of health is very important, if you don't

want to fall sick, both physically or mentally, nay,

even spiritually too. A simple three minute exercise

that anyone from a two-year old to a 100-year old

person can do is ATBSNR as per details given at

www.atbsnr.com to keep your body and mind free from

all aches and pains and so-to-say in " kicking " form.

That will help enable you to make further spiritual

progress too, paving your way to deeper meditation and

ultimately reaching the goal of self-realization,

Inshah Allah (God willing).

Tell me now, what more a human beng can ask from God?

And, that you get so easily if you behave in a pure

and natural manner without over-doing things that

create a lot of problems, physical, mental and even

spiritual.

If you get any doubts or any query about ATBSNR or

anythingelse, you are most welcome to email me for

quick clarifications to the best of my ability.

In this way, you need not fall sick at all. Whatever

problems you face, may be vat, pitta or kuff, should

also get resolved with proper balance automatically.

That will help enable you to make rapid spiritual

progress too; Amen.

in order to medically diagnose hypoglycemia you have to do a proper 6

hour fasting glucose tolerance test:

http://hypoglykemie.nl/gtt.htm

and very probably you have never had the proper test, because its

time-consuming and most doctors don't even know about

i cannot say for sure that you have hypoglycemia. but everything you

wrote suggests this to me

make sure to eat only a little at each meal, don't overload your

system with food

avoid mixing animal proteins with starches, or fruits after meals

when preparing proteins, try not to over cook them; for e.g. eat only

soft boiled, soft poached or basted eggs, with the whites solid and

the yolks runny; hard-boiled eggs are toxic foods

prior to eating create peacefulness in yourself, perhaps reciting the

bhojan mantra (brahmarparnam)

imagine the food nourishing every part of your being

it becomes a yagya - a sacrifice

eat in silence and with mindfulness, chewing each bite 30 times

avoid spicy foods - no chilies, no coffee, no alcohol, no potatoes,

no tomatoes, no garlic/onion, no fried foods

emphasize high fiber vegetable foods, including beets, leafy greens,

and sweet potatoes, all unpeeled but cooked well

it is possible that the left lower abdominal pain is from excess

straining to have a bowel movement? otherwise, pain in that area

might suggest an inflammatory state causing a narrowing of the bowel

and the resultant constipation

>

> I have been told that Parpatti kind treatment would not help me much.

>

> I am wondering whether going for Kaphaj-Mandagni medications, if

> any, can improve my condition.

from everything you say, it sounds to me like everything gets backed

up in your system due to excess vata (constipation)

in such a situation, heartburn is a secondary issue caused by poor

gastric motility

the medications prescribed however suggest amlapitta, but what

exactly are the nature of your heartburn symptoms? it sounds like

poor digestion, gas, flatulence and constipation are more your issue,

rather than lots of pitta (e.g. burning sensations, heat, along with

reddish tongue, and a fast hard pulse...) - sounds like mandagni with

excess vata to me

based on this hypothesis (given that i cannot really make an accurate

assessment by email), i would suggest herbal medications to

strengthen digestion

typically, i would recommend a full-spectrum digestive enzyme, 2-3

capsules with each meal

alternately or in addition, i might recommend some apple cider

vinegar as well, before meals

also, given the issue with poor fat digestion i would be inclined to

give something for the liver before meals - typically these are

bitter-tasting herbs

examples of herbs you could try include artichoke leaf, dandelion

root, and barberry, or indian herbs like chiretta, bhringaraj and

turmeric

after meals, i might suggest something to enhance agni and reduce

intestinal spasm, such as 1/2 tsp hingvastak mixed with a little water

i also typically recommend probiotics such as acidophilus and bifidus

with meals to restore the gut ecology

as a general regimen, first thing in the early morning take 1-2 tbsp

fresh ground flax seed (alsi, jawas, akshi) with one glass of water,

and follow with another 1-2 glasses of water - usually this is when i

also give a laxative formula, such as 1 tsp triphala + rhubarb root

or senna, along with herbs to moisturize the GI tract such as

licorice and shatavari (in the west, i use marshmallow and slippery elm)

attend thereafter to your toileting, then go for a walk, get some

exercise, and enjoy the early morning before work

don't worry about the bowel movements too much - these things can't

be forced

give thanks for everything you have, and try to feel the gravity

beneath your feet

stress-reducing exercises that open up the channels of the body such

as laughter yoga are good

its all about having fun - when the body is stressed the bowel " hangs

on " to the wastes and has a hard time " letting go "

throughout the day you can drink a mild tea made from herbs like dry

ginger and dhanya

if you are getting lots of heartburn, you can prepare a tea from

yashtimadhu (licorice), or add it to the above

these are just some suggestions - hopefully they are helpful

best bet is to find an ayurvedic physician to consult with locally

please tell us where you are located and someone will hopefully write

in with a recommendation

Namaste Mandv m,

When ever I take butter milk it results in heaviness in belly and loss of

appetite. I am not still able to digest diluted butter milk. Doctors have

advised me to take it with hinguastaka churna. I have taken it for few months.

But on surface could not derive much improvement.

Namaste Shri S.M.Acharyaji,

I am indebted for your kind advise and guidance. I am following exercise as

advised by you, for little time now as recently blessed with spondalities.

Headache has been companion for me since from child hood. That has given me

relief. In this regard I have got little query to make. After performing these

exercises in the morning (usually I do it after completion of set of prayers,

asanas and Pranayamas) I feel like my stomach gas tends to move upwards and

fetches me little aching in chest for little time persistence. Hopefully with

fully changed food regime this unpleasant feeling should vanish away.

Indeed, some time in past I did contemplate going for ascetic life style and

adopting foods containing only fruits. When I tried with raw vegetables, sprouts

etc., things did not work out. But then I should admit there have been few a lot

distracting factors and thanks to my weak mind set. I took alibi of nature of

work I perform which involves extensive physical labour inform of moving around

and exerting pressure on constructional field activity speedy progress. Perhaps

I might have been less resolute than required.

Never the less I have been fortunate enough to get exposure to have direction to

keep my mind free from worries, unnecessary competition and make myself detach

from worldly mist. However in reality probably still mind has not ripen to

embark and to evolve one such pressure free life style to augur with inner

peace and spirituality. I should realise the worth of mirage I am being after

within short time span.

Your advise once again lit the lamp within me to adopt and change, change for

the betterment of my ownself and my family.

I am much obliged than could express,

With kind regards,

Dear Mohan

Your real issue is malabsorption and IBS. You posted the details on

June 19, 2006, an year ago. The messaage 6964, which dealt with your

issues at length, a part of which is reproduced here for freshening up.

" In grahani, even buttermilk becomes difficult to digest, then

ghee will naturally give flatulence. Your ultra-sensitive mind may

have added fuel to the fire of the disease. Rasyanas, antioxidants

can help only if body's absorbing agency (grahani) is functioning

well. Detoxifying the body does not help much when no toxins exist,

except weak grahani and sensitive mind "

Same message mentioned that online suggestion is a least help for you.

You should locate an expert within convenient distance. Yours is a

very challenging situation for Vaidyas. In such a difficult situation,

Panchgavya medicines may offer some hope. Panchgavya based hospital run

by Govigyan Sanshodhan Kendra Nagpur (details on govigyan.com) may

offer you some expert advice. Though author also practices panchgavya

therapy, his experience with Grahani is limited; hence he is suggesting

you to go there as many experts are available there. Grahani medicines

are generally given with diluted buttermilk, the medicines are added

before making curd itself, as suggested in message 6964. This allows

lactobasillus in curd to act on herbs and perhaps ferment them a little

to increase their bio-availability. You may be aware that many items in

Indian kitchen use buttermilk or curd to ease the digestion by pre-

fermentation.

Dear Mohan

Do you have any brown, maroon or dark color blemishes near belly button

(nabhi) area, or on knees, ankle bone, nail side of fingers of hand and

feet, armpits. Or skin tags (termed chamkhil in marathi) in armpits,

on neck. Just a hunch.

Namaste Mohanji,

I was wondering,

Are you still trying to take a raw food diet?

This may be the source of a lot of your trouble.

Perhpas you should try to eat warm food, mung dal or tor dal with mild jeera and

adrak.

Steamed vegetables with mild digestive spices.

Raw vegetables do cause a lot of gas and the nutrients are not as easily

available to the body as they are when the vegetable are lightly cooked -

tender.

Dear Mr. Hegde,

The answer to your query is that ATBSNR that takes

just two minutes should be done before coming out of

the bed. You can relieve yourself if urgent. Then lie

down again for a couple of minutes. Then sleepflat on

the back with palms in place of the pillow and start

those simple movements like a two month old baby in

the mother's lap moves hands and feet without even

knowing about it. It should be done to enjoy the

relaxation and not as an exercise.

Please do not do any other strenuous exercises before

or after ATBSNR as that would cancel the good

rejuvenating effect of the ATBSNR.

Whenever tired, you can lie down again for two minutes

and do ATBSNR. The moment you get up, you will be

fully rejuvenated. What else you need when you feel

fresh like a flower each time you do ATBSNR? If you

don't get sleep, start doing ATBSNR, concentrating on

the excellent enjoyment it gives you every moment. You

will automatically fall asleep without your knowing

it. Even when sleeping, you would go on with that

enjoyment-full mood.

Besides, doing ATBSNR each time for a couple of

minutes with enjoyment, will train your mind to be

peaceful.

As to food, eat good fruits, salads, etc that you

like, with relish. Or don't eat at all even when

hungry. Then your mind will idicate to you to go for a

bite of a fruit that you would like to eat a bit. Eat

it and stop. Again your mind will tempt you to eat

some other fruit. Eat a small portion or take a bite

or two and stop. But don't forget to drink a little

water or some juice. Keep Amla-ka-murabba. Eat a piece

when you crave for a sweet sojourn. Just enjoy this

way without worrying about your condition.

Within a few days, you will start enjoying yourself as

never before advancing on the path of better mental,

physical and spiritual health.

So don't worry and do it. Mother Nature will help you

surely and certainly. Do what your heart tells you,

not the mind which only knows to play monkey tricks.

It is not being an ascetic but a real Mother Nature's

son. What more to write? Hope, you would understand.

best luck. May God bless you!

Namaste Shri Doctor

I am thankful to you whole heartedly for all time you are spending and taking

pain to feel my challenges and advising me to overcome woes of physical plane.

As you have made it out, my major of the problems are owing to excess Vata. In

this summer I had hyperacidity, severe chest pain, burning sensation from chest

to throat, eyes turning red etc. Also I have been with enlarged tonsils and

constant throat infection for quite a long period. One of the Ayurvedic

physical, confirmed that, the infection is due to high pitta condition. Because

when ever my constipation aggravated, throat infection, bodypain, feverishness

used to go high. Licorice (Yastimadhu) tea helped me bit on this.

Hopefully I can believe there is no inflammation on my colon area as it has been

concluded after colonoscopy.

I am located in a remote place in the state of Karnataka, India. Once again I

will look for Vaidyas who can diagnose and treat and there by help me to regain

my strength.

Once again my profuse gratitude for your kind help.

With kind regards,
