Why are the vocal chords swollen? Drink plenty of water - if it is due to heat then coconut water may help. Massage the throat and head with sesame oil and 1/4 tsp sesame, 7-10 drops eucalyptus. avoid cold foods and drinks.
Guest guest
In India, there is a tree named Khadir(Acacia catechu) or Khair in Hindi, is one of the seven holy trees. These are used as offerings in Yagya. In Sanskrit, Khadir is also termed Gayatri. It means it has a boon from Godess Saraswati, the singing godess. It gives protection to the vocal chords of the one who sings. Katha or let us term it as Khadir, is a tanin removed from heart wood of this tree, just as gum is removed from Babul tree. In Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Malaysia, khadir has been in use since ancient times as a spice with betel leaf (Pan). Those who are accustomed to chewing betel leaf will not get the real taste if they do not take khadir with it. It brings added pleasure to the chewing of betel leaf. A small bit of khadir added to the betel leaf adds to the taste and makes one's lips red. It reduces hoarseness too. IN modern language, khadir is antileprotic, Antipuritic, Antiinflammatory, Dentifrices, Bronchial sedative. Khadir makes gums also strong and protects teeth, thus qualifying for another name " Dantdhavan " . If the tongue gets coated by sticky matter or in case of excess salivation, khadir come to help. The Khadir tree belongs to the same class which has Babul tree. Khadir is pitta pacifier, cooling but somewhat pungent too. For hosrsenss, the ready formulation is Khadiradi Vati, where additional herbs are added to make the tablets. Keep sucking one tablet every hour, maximum 8 per day, in two to three days your voice should become OK. Some pharmacies have proprietary medicine under the name Kantsudhar Vati or Kanthil etc. All these have major ingredient Khadir. Khadir has so many uses in ayurvedic medicines, especially those addressing fertility issues, skin problems etc. While khadir, when chewed in beetle leaf makes lips red, it removes blood impurities too. One medicine, 'Khadirarist' is seen to cure incurable diseases such as anemia, leprosy, jaundice, enlargement of the spleen, dry cough etc. Vaidyas practice the art of enhancing the qualities of a herb/herbal extracts by adding few more compatible herbs, or suggesting the way the herbal medicine is to be taken. You have been already suggested some home remedies by Mandakini. Boil some water with salt and turmeric (1/4 tsp each per cup of water) for 5 minutes and when luke warm, gargle with the water. Three times a day, when you are not sucking above tablets. stickiness in the throat, mild infection will be addressed by this home remedy. Avoid oily foods and dairy till voice is restored. The custom of chewing beetle nut in vocalists families in Pakistan, Benares, etc owes its root to the Khadir properties, especially tackling dry cough, unpleasant in a classical music concert. ayurveda , " kankan_73 " <kankan_73 wrote: > Please suggest some remedies for Hoarseness due to swelling of vocal > cord.
