Guest guest
I've been reading messages in this forum and I feel we are all very fortunate to have several good Vaidyas answering querries, including Dr. Muzumdar. Dear esteemed vaidyas, I have some questions on Chyawanprash. 1)Is Chyawanprash a good tonic for all ages and all prakruthis ? 2)Can Chyawanprash be consumed in all seasons ? 3)Is Chyawanprash safe during pregnancy? If yes during which period it should be consumed ? 4)We have a number of brands of Chyawanprash in India like Dabur,Baidyanath,Himalaya,Bajaj etc. Could you please recommend me a brand that follows authentic Ayurvedic texts to prepare the rasayana? I read the label of Dabur and it says they use Potassium Sorbate as a preservative. Thanking you. Sincerely Pradeep
Guest guest
Dear Pradeep, Chyawanprash is a muti-herbal medicine described in the Rasayana chapter of Charaka Samhita. To get the Rasayana ie rejuvinative effects of Chyawanprash, one has to undergo physical purification procedures called Panchkarma. Otherwise it is just a poly-herbal jam. And anybody and everybody can eat jam in any season of the year in any part of the world. One more interesting fact which I had read in one of the prominent newspaper some years ago - that India produces more Chyawanprash than all the amount of raw amla available throughout India. It is very easy for a clever man to infer from these observations about the quality of Chyawanprash available in open markets. Markets are known more for their business attitudes than respecting authenticity. The only authentic preparation can be the one you prepare yourself after collecting all the raw ingredients and processing them according to Ayurvedic text, which is very tedious and time-consuming. Ayurveda is more prominently SOLD as a label, rather than being practised as a HEALING SCIENCE. I apologise to anybody who may be offended by my frank opinion, BUT truth cannot be deviated.
