We are having a discussion on another group about Kundalini yoga. The

side effects of releasing the kundalini came up, and we were wondering

what causes it to release and make some people sick, while others

reach spiritual bliss. Thanks for any info on this.

can be many reasons for " side effects " of kundalini in an un-prepaired body. if

the nadi are sot clean, if they r bloked, it can burn the nadi or go on other

paths different than the right one. burning nadis can lead to severe effects,

till mental problems. i experienced once the rise of kundalini on pingala,

because i did what i was told not to. my practise was not balanced and the

effects were not nice, i can assure u. u need to prepare first your subtile

structure in order to get the good effects. kundalini rising sounds grate but it

is not a game for bored teen-agers, like i was that time. it's better to follow

your teacher's instructions and do every important actions under his / her

guidance.

Can this happen only with Kundalini yoga, or any type of yoga, or just by

itself? I know it is the root chakra described as being coiled like a

snake, but what is it that gets it to rise?

any spiritual energy can make it rise. it happens also to people who have never

heared the word " yoga " .

i met a patient with a very bad form of paranoid schizophrenia. he was praying a

lot but he was eating meat and besides praying he had no other spiritual

practise. once, during his prayer he had a sudden rise of kundalini. he didn't

know what happened to him, but he described the phenomena exactly. after this,

his illness started. i'm not trying to scare u, just to worn u so u do it right.

when i had that " accident " with kundalini rising on pingala instead of sushumna,

my structure was really pure. i was 19years old, vegetarian for many years,

practising yoga for more than 4years, never smoking so it was not as bad as it

could be, i didn't get any severe disease. i was just suffering of extreme heat

all over the winter, i could not stand cloths on me and i was sweting like in

sauna, under 0 degrees celsius, i could not sleep... i was eating frozen milk

from fridge, with slices of ice in it, so i can stand the heat, while the

windows were open all the time and no other source of heat in that room.

there are special methods very efficient for rising it, they are in hatha yoga

too, not only in kundalini yoga. but u have to take it step by step, and prepare

ur structures well before. u need guidance from experienced teacher. i am not

going to teach u the methods on net, and no one else should. if u are really

interested, join an authentic yoga school, or find a guru.

Thank you, you have been very helpful. I really wasn't planning on taking

the kundalini class, a friend of mine was going to until I mentioned the

potential danger.
