Guest guest
Dear respected Vaidyas, I am a born blind suffering with Retinitis Pigmentosa and Atrophy. For the past one year, I am taking ayurvedic treatment from Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic and Eye Research Center, Kerala and experiencing good progress of my vision. I have recently come to know of an Acupuncture treatment by a delhi-based doctor for diseases that I am suffering with, that is, RP and Atrophy. Having spoken to various patients taking acupuncture treatment, my evaluation is that they are having tremendous/excptional improvements in their vision within a span of a few weeks. I would now like to seek the opinions whether I can go for the acupuncture treatment along with or without ayurvedic treatment. Ayurvedic treatment is very slow. Whereas, acupuncture is very fast with almost immediate results. Will there be a clash between these two treatments? Does one treatment adversely effect on the other? I would appreciate to hear detailed views/suggestions/opinions in this regard from all in general and from those who specialise in ayurvedic and acupuncture treatments. I am very thankful for your replies which I hope will receive soon. P. Subramani.

Guest guest
With due respect to other wise counselling online, as far as I know, there is no conflict taking both Ayurveda and accupuncture treatments together. On the other hand, I would also advise doing pranayams, the seven basic pranayams on which there is a VCD made by Swami Ramdevji's trust at Haridwar. These CDs are available at all important music stores and AH Wheeler shops at the railway stations. Best luck, S. M. Acharya --- " P. Guest guest
Dear Acharya, In fact, Ayurvedic medicines have no conflict with any other system of healing, even allopathy. I have observed that most of the times, Ayurvedic medicines enhance the beneficial effects of other medicines or activities. It is most probably the conflict in the minds of practitioners, who wish water-tight compartmentalism to safe-guard their own interests and prevent losing their client ie patient, hence create the idea of incompatibility / conflict between two different systems. Guest guest
Ayurvedic treatment results can be slow, but slow and steady wins the race. Taking accupuncture or other alternative treatment along with ayurveda OK, but listen to your body as accupuncture also manipulates central nervous system. When patients under heavy antibiotics in pre and post surgery conditions developed mouth ulcers, lack of hunger, constipation etc this author has given them ayurvedic suggestions after approval of attending surgeon and results were always positive. When certain conditions where central nervous system is predominantly involved, however, " alloptahy mixed with ayurveda, even in neglible proportion " , has produced undesirable results. A case of a lady patient is mentioned at http://health.ayurveda/message/9348 But this does not mean hard opinion, each case is unique. This post also illustrates how slow ayurveda treatment can be. And how vaidya has to make his own mixtures instead of going in " ready medicine " of pharmacies. Every patient is unique. While ready formulations suit most, exceptional cases are there. Trifla churna causing constipation has been the experience of a vaidya in this group, posted in archives! ayurveda , " P.
