Guest guest
According to the modern concept ghee is a heavy substance which when taken slows down the digestion process. But according to Ayurveda it increases the digestive fire. This is explained on the basis of prabhava. The two ideas are opposite to each other. Also when we eat food with lots of ghee in it we also feel heaviness and sleepy ,this also favours the modern point of view. Please explain this.. Guest guest
If ghee is made by traditional process it is very easy to digest, as volume of fire is already input in the process itself. The difference in the manufacturing process can cause significant medicinal difference as explained at http://www.amritaveda.com/learning/articles/ghee.asp Many other substances share the behaviour that when stomach is stuffed with them, heaviness, drowsiness(sleepy) results, e.g. sweets, dairy products in general. This is due to rapid spurt in blood sugar. Excess of anything is bad. if you take pepper/ginger, it increases digestive fire. In excess, it will cause nose bleed! Quantity is important in ayurveda. same way ghee in proper quantity, will aid agni, excess will cause obesity in long term. First study ghee fully, many references from samhitas and published journals can be found at http://www.govigyan.org/bibliography/bibliography3.htm http://www.govigyan.org/bibliography/bibliography4.htm food and herb combining are based on spiritual principles too, not simply chemistry. Tamarind, for instance, when dissolved in water to make juice, is so cooling a drink. Otherwise it vitiates Vata, pitta! ayurveda , Riyaz Nazimudheen <riyazn123 wrote: > > According to the modern concept ghee is a heavy > substance which when taken slows down the digestion > process. Guest guest
Dear Shirish, We should also remember that the ghee recommende to be used in Ayurveda generally is cow's ghee. But what we use now and is available in markets is buffalo's ghee and that is definitely heavier. One more thing that needs attention. I had posted two reply mails to your mails 1) re: acne dt 14-5-07 and 2) re: pain in abdomen. But somehow the replies have not been displayed on the board. Did you get the message? Not only, buffalo but even jersey cow milk, having more fat content, is also heavier, as compared to brahman(Bos Indicus) cow. Buffalo milk difference, since discussed with reasons at the link cited, was not mentioned. The querry is from a student of ayurved, he can pick up everything from the references link. > One more thing that needs attention.
