Guest guest
I have to have a tooth extracted and the dentist told me that she will not touch me for a week because I have to quit taking some of the meds I am on first. I am just wondering if there are any of the ayurvedic herbs that I should avoid during this time? I am taking Arjuna, Boswellia, and a mix for diabetes that seems to have a lot of bitter melon and neem and a bunch of the other usual suspects that get mentioned for diabetes (wicked bitter, but my sugar is in the double digits a lot of the time, not the triple anymore). Lately I have thrown in some turmeric for an experiment and it all seems to be working well together. Darla

Guest guest
Dear Darla, The main concern of your dentist may be the effect of Ayurvedic herbs on the bleeding effect post-procedure/extraction. Basides you are also having diabetes which seems to be in control by the herbs you are taking. Diabetes if not under control can delay healing process and may also complicate matters by causing pus in raw wounds. It would be advisable to get the blood reports done to assess the values of blood sugar, bleeding time, clotting time and prothrombin, before you visit your dentist again. If the values are well within control range, I don't see any reason why the dentist should object to your Ayurvedic medication. Dentists generally advise antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and pain subsiding medicines after procedure and according to my experience, these allopathic medicines and the Ayurvedic herbs you are taking do not clash against each other. Both the treatments can be continued together, only that keep a gap of half an hour between taking them ie if you take dental medicine at 9 am then you may take Ayurvedic medicines at 8.30 am or 9.30 am likewise during the different dose timings.
