She may try Shrikhand during night meals, one of the sweet curd recipes instead of poppy seed kheer. Nutmeg powder may be sprinkled lightly over Shrikhand (Shrikhand is also a great Vata-Shamak remedy). Shrikhand is a very good suggestion. Author would like to discuss it further. Being a concentrated dairy product, requires slightly stronger digestive fire, but is a very cooling food. In view of " gas-bloating " present already, adopt this slowly, starting with small quantity and gradually increasing as the body accepts it. the lack of fiber is being compensated by leafy vegetables in Sambhar, curry etc so no worry there. It may be better if you can make it yourself from milk stage, and add " Kala-sakkare " instead of refined sugar+color/saffron added in commercially sold Shreekhand. This later variety is enriched with cream too, which is obtained by centrifuging rather than normal household process. This makes it a highly " processed " dairy product. Author finds that 99% children suffering from intestinal worms are addicted to such dairy/cadbury products. (author, in childhood, belonged to this category, even with home-made shreekhand!) Ayurveda advises to stay away from dairy during night for this reason. Warm milk is a better alternative, especially Badam milk is a popular custom in South india, in tune with ayurvedic lifestyle. Even this should be home made, as commercial milks may have synthetic colors added.
