Guest guest
I have found that my children have far fewer illnesses and they are complete vegetarians. I do not beleive in vitamin suppliments. If we take regular suppliments our body may forget how to take nutrition from food. WE need only make sure they eat good protein through lentils, cheese and yogurt. They also need to get iron from dates, rasins, leafy greens. savitha_gnk <savitha_gnk wrote: Is pure vegetarians are more prone to diseases when compared to non vegetarians. If so what supplements needed for children if they are purely vegetarian. Guest guest
Dear Savitha, According to Ayurveda, diseases are not dependant on just vegetarian or non-veg diet. Diseases are caused due to over-use, less use, non-use or mis-use of food types. Foods not confirming to ones' own Prakruti (constitution), incompatible combinations (like fish and milk etc.) and unhygienic methods of preparing foods (ashuchi) are some of the important causes of diseases caused by food. There are some protein substances called essential proteins which are available only through non-veg items. Therefore Ayurveda advises the use of milk which is actually a food of animal origin (non-veg source) but with Sattvic element ie. without harming / killing the animal concerned. Presently, it is a trend to include unfertilised poultry eggs as vegetarian diet. This source can also be a good complimentary non-veg food item for vegetarians. However Ayurveda states that egg is a AAM-GARBHA (unformed foetus / embryo) and is basically heavy to digest, hence should be eaten only by those who have very strong digestive capacity (PRAVAR AGNI) So a balanced diet confirming to age, constitution etc is helpful to maintain health. If vegan diet is imbalanced, pure vegetarians can suffer from anaemia, tuberculosis and such diseases. Improper non-veg diet can cause heart problems, lipid disorders, cancer etc. In children with pure vegetarian diet, milk and eggs can be added if they are not allergic to them.
