Dr. Nidhi Joshi's message about HIV

Dr. Joshi has said in her message, " No body dies of what is called

AIDS.They succumb to ill health and opportunistic infections " I myself

am HIV + and am entirely under ayurvedic treatment which has helped me

big time. After the unexpected diagnosis and the alarmingly low cd4

count, I had lost all hopes of pulling on for even a year. The first

two months after diagnosis, Ayurveda was not in picture for me and the

HIV OPD of a public hospital was place I frequently visited. Most of

the patients were from the lower strata of society, with hands to

mouth existence and for whom any nutritional meal could only be a

dream. None of them gave me any hope. Later I heard about ayurvedic

treatment. One line of the treatment is panchgavya based while the

other is under a trial project run by a government Ayurvedic hospital.

My rounds to this Ayurvedic hospital and its HIV OPD gave me hope.

There was marked difference in the patients . Both the groups were

under medication, but the patients at Ayurvedic hospital appeared to

be more energetic and normal, while the patients at allopathy general

hospital were by and large specimens of AIDS, big head,

under-nourished body and eyes devoid of any hope. This difference made

me choose Ayurveda over allopathy and the decision, at least till date

is very, very encouraging.

 

What I learnt during the treatment is, this drug am on ( based on

Guduchi as the main ingredient) has failed to get a patent as " AIDS

DRUG " . This is in spite of having case histories of patients under

treatment for more than five years. Patients that have registered a

growth in CD4 count, better CD4 : CD8 ratio and decreasing viral

load. There are legal hurdles as well as social hurdles. Even this

ayurvedic hospital MUST prescribe ART to its patient. That is

official. A Vaidya associated with this drug was hounded out from an

International AIDS conference happening at a five star hotel in

Mumbai. In an AIDS related community on Orkut, when I narrated my

experience with Ayurveda and claimed that I have gained weight and my

energy levels are the best as of now and emphasized on the " Boost

immunity " approach over " Kill the T helper cells " line of treatment,

I was banned from the community for " spreading lies "

 

It is high time Ayurvedic practitioners in India come together and

initiate a public debate on real face of HIV- AIDS. I have read about

at least two projects. One carried out at Bombay Hospital by Dr.

Mundewadi and the other at MGM Hospital. The one that am being treated

under is launched by RA Poddar college and Dr. Pandit Sawant is

instrumental in it. There are other vaidyas too, like Dr. Joshi here,

Vaidya Nadkarni too is treating a number of HIV AIDS patients

successfully ( Keeping them safe from OIs) ...there could be many such

vaidyas. Is it really difficult to get united and initiate a debate.

It will be in the interests of Ayurveda and more so in the interest of

the largely poor HIV AIDS victims that are burdened with toxins under

the garb of ART.
