Vitamin deficency

Hi Jen, are you taking anything for the menopausal symptoms?

If you are vitamin deficient, don't wait for the dr, get yourself a good

multi vitamin so that you are replacing all of them albeit, in small doses

as quickly as possible, once you are told which vitamins, add them to

the multi vitamin and you know that you are getting what you need.

If you have a kidney infection, it is your bodies way of telling you that

there is a problem - you need to find out what that problem is and to

eliminate it so that the kidney problem does not become recurrent.

about a kidney infection. Apologies Jen

Hi Marianne, I have had lots of tests and the vitamin definency was

the only thing that showed up, so I guess that must be source of my

problem. Thanks for your reply JenGettingwell,

I also assume that they gave you antibiotics for the

kidney infection. antibiotics kill everything

including the healthy intestinal flora. These

flora/bacteria are needed for the absorption of

certain vitamins, K and some B I believe. You can buy

a full spectrum intestinal flora also known as

probiotics at most health food stores that will

replace the needed bacteria. I personally think the

Jarrow brand is the best. It is a bit pricey. Look in

the refrigorated section for the best brands.

Respected gurus

i would be grateful if someone can put light on how vitamin

deficiencies can be treated through ayurveda or nature cure system.

all vitamin B group & vitamin E.

ESPECIALLY VITAMIN b12; I,M A VEGETARIAN & HAVE BEEN FOUND LOW WITH b12

& taking injections. i do not see synthetic supplements & injections as

a solution. my doctor told me it can cause serious troubles of mental/

neuro system.

i have started taking chyvanprash from DIVYAYOG ASHRAM BUT also do not

want to take some medicines as i fear of metals side effects.

pl guide

Thanks

Dairy products are good sources of vitamin B12 - that's why dairy is

part of the standard Ayurvedic diet.

However, in older times, plants contained more vitamin B12 because they

absorbed it from the soil. Today, most plants do not contain any B12

(because it isn't in the soil). Therefore, vegetarians must be

especially careful to get B12. Ghee (and other dairy products) should be

included in the diet.

Be aware of foods that contain B12 analogs! Some vegetarians substitute

these foods - and the health cost can be devastating.

Here is a blog article with a list of plant foods that contain B12

antFoods.aspx> . That blog article also has a link to another really

good article on the complexity of the Vitamin B12 issue for vegetarians.

Dear Mona;

I am far from any guru state and these are thoughts brought back up

from your questoin though not really about treating deficiencies in

the short run. But maybe these conceps will lead to more answers of

interest to us all? From Dr. Ramakant Mishra, a lecture whose notes

are ??? so just a few tidbits - on achieveing good nutritional balance

by taste alone.

He talked about the 6 tastes and which nutrients are found in each

taste. In particular, we can easily understand Vit C type vitamins

from sour. Bitter taste provides B vitamins. He cited the value of

turmeric in particular, but did not go into which B vitamins are

available in what quantity. Certainly, modern diet is very short in

bitter taste except from coffee, coke and chocolate, which do not

provide much, yet it explains some of why these things are craved, in

addition to their other qualities.

Astringent taste is toning, contracting, hemostatic, etc. Which

vites? I dno't remember. Salt - many trace minerals in Real Salt.

Pungent...again I don't remember, although those of us cooking more

ayurvedically do not need to take enzyme supplements, even eating

mostly cooked, if also food combining and other simple wisdom is

practiced around eating and lifestyle.

Vitamin E...Wheat germ oil? According to one medical intuitive,

pumpkin seed oil cleans 6 little glands as yet undiscovered by western

medicine hidden in folds of the omentum/attached to small intestine,

which secrete dhatu ojas.

Warm Regards;

Ysha
