Guest guest
Do you also have pain in the neck along with the headache? Guest guest
Yes. I do get pain in the neck on the side of the migraine pain. I haven't noticed the lower back pain, bloating or constipation as related. However, I do get all three symptoms during my period. The migraines typically hit right before and right after. Sometimes I get one right in the middle. ayurveda , mandv m <mandakiniven wrote: > Do you also have pain in the neck along with the > headache? > Do you have bloating, lower back pain or constipation? Guest guest
These menstrual migraines occur mostly in teenagers. Author would also like to know if you have any mercury fillings in teeth. a coomon cause of all migraines is temporary constriction of some blood vessels in brain, and dilation of other vessels to compensate. Body's inner intelligence compromises blood flow to certain areas, to allow higher flow to more important areas, at least for time being. Menstrual flow requires to be primed by drawing out on blood flow from nearby muscles of less importance at that time. Hence back pain, pain in thighs, cramps, calf muscle pain etc is a common occurance. And it is good too, so that a woman gets advance warning and take rest at proper shelter. Acharyas declared abstinance from all house hold duties so that the women do not suffer during menstruation. The menstruation also allows women to get rid of impure blood, or " rakta dhatu " impurities. Thus impurities " peak " just before menstruation. This is what causes migraine before menstruation. There is a connection between gonads and liver pointed out by author in a post titled " shortened cycle " , thus hormonal changes require participation from liver also. liver is the " engine " driving menses. Hence most medicines for PMS (migraine is one symptom of PMS) are based on aloe vera or its formulations. Do not take any painkiller, most painkillers create suitable situation for polycystic ovaries later. While simple migrains are cured by applying a paste of dry ginger powder (1/2 tsp) and turmeric powder (1/4 tsp) mixed together in milk and applied to forehead for an hour. the menstrual migraines can be taken care by taking aloe vera pulp, 10-20 grams empty stomach first thing in the morning with 2 pinches of saindhav salt and again 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder! Take for three months and bye to migraine connected with periods. These migraines are just the beginning of the later cystic ovary syndrome after 5-10 years. Involvement of neck and shoulder may incidcate some problem in cervical vertebrae discs. If your haemoglobin is low (as is in most teenagers suffering from menstrual migraines), taking 4 date crush along with overnight soaked two almonds (remove almond peel before chewing them) would help. See message 1530 also. Author could stop 99 menstrual migrains out of 100 bu just ginger, turmeric, dates and almonds. Ginger powder (1/2 tsp), turmeric powder (1/4 tsp) boiled in two cups water till one cup remains and taken with lemon juice of 1/2 lemon, three times a day also takes care of this problem, since this drink is also directed to liver. Ginger and turmeric are ladies herbs, kitchen spices, can cure arthritis to cervical cancer too, as posted by this author in archives. Their simple availability makes their importance less in our mind! Apart from this, taking rest in dark room will also help. ayurveda , " satyadayama " <satyadayama wrote: > > Namaste > I suffer from Migraines every month before and after my period. Guest guest
I have found that many women get this type of neck pain and headache with onset of menstruation. There is a point in the neck that is associated with the uterus. If you massage your neck two days before you are due to menstruate I think you would get some relidef of this problem. The constipation is related to improper flow of apana vayu and is common in many women. Before your period you can take prune juice or hot rice pudding for a couple of days and make sure to massage the body with warm sesame oil in a downward motion from the base of the ribcage to the pelvis. Make sure to also massage the neck and do gentle neck exercises. Turn the head to the right and try to gently look over your shoulder, slowly rotate the head to the right and gently try to look over your shoulder. Look down and push your shoulders back and then slowly lift the head. This will help the neck stay open and the trigger point for the headaches will not get pressed. Keep a heating pad on the lower abdomen to help energy flow downward so that onset of menstruation is easy and unrestricted. --- satyadayama <satyadayama wrote: > Yes. Guest guest
Please forgive me for bringing this up, but I'm need help. I have always had trouble with my periods. I didn't start until I was almost seventeen and then would menstruate sometimes, for three months straight. Then I'd go for many months with nothing. It's always very irregular, and dangerously heavy. After having my four children, the doctor thinned out the uterus by burning the lining, so I wouldn't bleed so much. I still have a period(which surprised my doctor. She thought I'd probably stop, altogether.) and I'm much lighter in bleeding, but I still bleed for at least 21 days. I paid more attention and realized, it may be that I'm having two periods every month. I seem to start and then finish after about ten days. Then a few days later, it starts up again and goes another ten days. I finally stop after the second one for about ten to fifteen days and then it begins all over. I don't want to take drugs. My doctor has done every test many times over and keeps telling me everything is normal. I know it isn't. After I had my last child, I was producing milk, even until she was almost four years old. I hadn't even nursed her because she had an undeveloped throat when she was born and needed careful bottle feeding. I also notice that I often have a sudden drop of clear liquid, similar to water, occasionally. There is absolutely no smell, and it's about as much as a large handful of water. Doctors don't give me any answers to any of this. They are full of pride, too, and don't like to talk about things they weren't taught in school, so they ignore me. I'm only 34. I'm 113 pounds, 5'4. I'm vegan. I've had MS like symptoms since I was seventeen with chronic pain. I also have all the signs of severe B vitamin and magnesium deficiencies, but doctors say they don't see that on the tests, either. I know that when I take magnesium, I have a lot of relief. I don't know how to take B vit. yet. I won't eat meat. I'm tired of doctors saying everything is normal and doing nothing to help. They offer no natural alternatives. I'm in California. Hope someone has some ideas for me. Thanks so much for your time. Guest guest
Hi, Acording to the mail you sent about Hormonal Migraines you make an allusion to the use of analgesic on treating PMS and its consequences. I am very interested in this subject and would like to read something related to menstruation in ayurvedic tradition and so, also reading from you all about the mistakes of occidental medicine treating menstruation without taking care of this process. Could you guide me a little? Thank you very much. Carmen P.s.: I also suffer from hormonal migraines so I will try to treat it with this turmeric/ginger combo. _ These menstrual migraines occur mostly in teenagers. Guest guest
Wow very interesting. Would you say the MS type symptoms and menstruation came together? Were you always vegan? What kind of ms symptoms? Are you thin at this 113 pound 5'4? Are you heavy or light bone structure? Thin or thick hair? Slow or quick nature? Fast or slow talker? Soft and tender and gentle or moody, nervous? B vitamin can be found in yogurt - yogurt is very good for health on many levels - are you willing to eat yogurt? You can take a bit of magnesium if it helps you, but it is possible that this is an absorption problem, what type of diet do you take? What do you generally eat at morning lunch supper? maymecall <no_reply > wrote: Please forgive me for bringing this up, but I'm need help. Guest guest
Thank you, for asking; Yes, the MS symptoms started around the same time I started menstruation, -almost seventeen. No, I grew up in a meat-eating family, and stopped eating meat after a Near Death experience, four years ago. I find that I feel better staying away from the dairy and eggs, as well. I woke up, the first incident, at age seventeen, hardly able to breath, and couldn't walk. I felt disconnected. The pain was so severe, I tried to scream, and couldn't, because the pressure from screaming caused too much pain. It took about a week before I was walking again, but then I had episodes on and off and still do. Currently, I am losing feeling in the bottom of my feet and have trouble walking, but I notice that I feel much better when I sleep well, ..as with any physical problem. The muscle tissue hurts all over, and used to be in constant spasms, but when I tried stopping gluten, the spasms calmed down. Now, I just have persistent soreness and fatigue. I was reading about vitamins and simply read the section of deficiencies. I was surprised(this was a few days ago), to find all my symptoms fit under the Deficiency signs for lack of magnesium and all the B vitamins. Sleep disturbance Irritability rapid heartbeat tachychardia, heart murmer confusion muscle spasm Gastro Intestinal upset nausea and vomiting(I have to take ginger every day to keep from throwing up) extremely low blood pressure canker sores dizziness/verigo hair loss halitosis tingling in extremities unsteady walk severe constipation(Triphala helps me, though) occasional hallucinations(when deprived long enough of sleep) parasthesia in the legs anemia spinal chord degeneration and the beginning of spondilitis I have all those symptoms and they fit under magnes. and B vitamin defic. Even when I ate meat every day, those were my problems. I'm very conscious of what I eat, making sure I get all the vitamins I need and take supplements as well, but it seems I don't absorb mag. or B vits. I don't understand it. I am not too thin at 113 pds and 5 feet four inches. I have a small build and have always been very small. I'm 34 years old and still have salespeople come to the door and ask to talk to my " mom " . I have very thin, fine, chestnut brown hair with some red highlights from the sun. I've been of a very nervous, quick nature all my life. I've learned how to work on calming down. My doctor said my oxygen level is very low and I have a machine for oxygen at night, despite my being very small-bodied. I talk, A LOT, and quickly, but I've become very quiet and contemplative since my Near Death exp. I'm moody and nervous by nature, and have to constantly remind myself not to be negative. I can get very hyper and excited and I have trouble with adrenalin shooting through my system at odd times, like while I'm asleep, or while doing something trivial. I have to take more than 1,000 mg of mag. each night to keep my legs from jerking all night. It definitely helps, but I feel very loose and have trouble holding myself up, if I need to get up and walk. I have a lot of trouble around electricity. I get more nauseated and dizzy. I eat all vegetables, ..especially fresh spinach, every day. I eat some fruit, but not much. Anything with sugar, ..natural or not, bothers my mouth. I get canker sores from sweet things. So I never touch sugar or candy, normally. I eat rice and all beans. I much on pine nuts, almonds, cashews, peanuts, brazil nuts, hazel nuts, all day long. I also drink lots of pure water. I don't do gluten at all. No chemicals, chocolate or anything that isn't " Whole " . Here are my supplements; I just ordered something called, Pureganic Liquid Manna and Pureganic Mineral Powder.(I was told it was a magical formula that would heal me) We'll see about that. I take 6 Triphala pills a day I take Accuflora probiotics -3 capsule a day I always take ginger root to keep from vomiting I take two multi vitamins called, Women's multi from Jarrow formulas I'm also just starting flaxseed oil, to get my omegas I have nitro-glycerin from the doctor, because a few times a year my heart has spasms and it is excruciating. I am willing to eat yogurt, if I can find one that is organic, and know that the animals that contributed were treated very humanely. I'll do some research. Thanks so much for your input. I want so much to be free again. Hope some of my information gives someone an idea. amy ayurveda , mandv m <mandakiniven wrote: > > Wow very interesting. > Would you say the MS type symptoms and menstruation came together? > Were you always vegan? > What kind of ms symptoms? > Are you thin at this 113 pound 5'4? > Are you heavy or light bone structure? Guest guest
Oops. Forgot your question about meal time. When I wake up, I drink lots of room-temperature pure water and relax for a while. Then I drink some juice, ..apple, orange, pomegranite.. I'll eat a banana, sometimes. 7a.m. At lunch, I usually make soup. I love lentil and use a lot of onions and fresh veggies of every kind. I like Thai coconut soup, too. In the evening, I usually eat an enormous spinach salad with about fifteen different veggies and some organic virgin olive oil dressing. I have other things, too, but that's a good example. I don't have a lot of soy, but sometimes I'll have stir-fry veggies with some soy sauce, or natural ice cream made with soy instead of dairy, sweetened with fruit juice, instead of sugar. My greatest weakness is salt. I love chips and anything salty. Popcorn, etc. Thanks again for your thoughts on my ailment. amyayurveda , mandv m <mandakiniven wrote: > > Wow very interesting. > Would you say the MS type symptoms and menstruation came together? Guest guest
Dear AMy; Hopefully you have gotten in touch with Mandv privately. A few things stand out that may be of help she may or may not note, forgive this is not the usual big picture approach just a few good pieces - > > Yes, the MS symptoms started around the same time I started > menstruation, -almost seventeen. The late onset of menstruation alone will give much higher level of pitta, contributing to excess bleeding. Pain levels thru the roof and many other symptoms described yes show such high vata imbalances. I would be including if not some sesame oil basti with bala before menstruation for a few days, definitely find dosage and frequency recs for you on the small castor oil milk/honey recommended by another member. Much comfort can be gained also by using small piece of undyed flannel soaked in ghee or sesame oil (add bala in decotion for even better) and sleeping with it inserted vaginally, 1 week before menses is due and until. It oleates, nourishes, and soothes the pelvic tissues in many ways. Bala has vata rasayana, analgesic and muscle affinity. Migraines also show up with chronic constipation and even home PK such as in Dr. Lad's home remedies book with the oleation would be one of my choices, although your situation is extreme and best will be to consult someone in California who is trained vaidya with women's issues such as Dr. Apte if near SFrancisco to diagnose in careful attention to what your body wants to do first, and guide you carefully (providing also gentle abhyanga and shirodara services). PK is not done during first days of menses or heavy bleeding, and with your frequency, timing will be essential. >Currently, I am losing feeling in the bottom of my feet and.... I was reading about vitamins and simply read the section of deficiencies. I have had this symptom come and go and learned yes, this symptom can be from not only nerve pinching in damaged spine or advancing diabetes, but from 2 of the following 3 (about my memory here) low B12, low Folic acid, or low glutathione (latter is not successfully supplemented directly, it is an end chain liver antioxidant which is very important throughout the body and I don't know how this translates in Ayruveda except probably both the sanskaras you came in with and have experienced as one suggested accumulated chaotic 2nd chakra energies can also mess with body agni and enzymes. Does it also come up with mercury? I do not know, but can concur with Dr. Bhate that mercury leaching in the mouth can greatly exacerbate immune system, many of your symptoms, and cankor sores. ARe you taking water soluble mag or pills? The water sol seems much better absorbed. Product (just that) called CALM most available. As many of us must be noticing, so many of these symptoms are high vata. And arjuna, ashoka, shatavari, ashwaghanda, amalaki, pippali among herbs that come to mind immediately to this author, but please, professional guidance for a balanced personalized formula... Feel called to report very surprising reduction in the cold sore virus for some with large doses of St. Johns wort oil. The source product is sun infused 1000 hours in olive oil (also has alchemical potency in this combination for the nervous system and brain tissues direct detox and healing. this blend not for depression). Flora company sells this, we do kinesiology for dosage, usually 30 or 40 capsules split into 2 daily doses over some time! No, they are not vegan from Flora. Any other sources this combo? Coconut butter/oil etc supportive also with the canker sores (monolaurin compound therein), much use of nuts very counter productive due to the amino acid profile. Max equiv of 10 - 12 almonds a day even that back off when fighting the sores, and ALWAYS soak your nuts overnight or more, and peel the almonds. Better to eat more quinoa and amaranth (high in lysine and complete amino acid profile) and avoid brown rice very often, this also enhances the viral growth. REgular use of lysine as a supplement reduces immune vitality somehow though, and it is not an antiviral as some think. Pippali decoction in milk Trivedi taught is helpful, but I don't see it noticably so for acute case - maybe in this good food discussion is properly placed advice and happy cow's milk being also so very soothing properly used, for vata and pitta. Alongside more traditional ayurvedic routines you will hopefully find recommended in this forum or privately, I'd be doing several weeks of 2 TBS pumpkin seed oil daily followed by about 3 weeks of mega dose folic acid liquid (Pure Encapsulations brand only, 1/4 bottle daily at once), followed by the st. john's wort as above. Pumpkin seed oil (any brand) helps like any good oil not only nourish and lubricate, but this oil helps clean some specail glands in the omentum for dhatu ojases, according to one of my teachers who gives these tools and others. The folic acid may have been short during your own wombtime, certainly with it's ability to facilitate many many different chemistries may be wise jumpstart to help saturate a good turnaround. Again, I don't know the ayurveda translation here, except that whole foods sometimes are not enough to restore a major balance in comfort timing so we use additional measures. Most vegans I have met by far are way too vata, too much raw foods and need to favor more cooked vegetables, more agni enhancing culinary spices, more balanced proteins, more good cholesterol fats as well as the EFAs (be sure to use the highest lignan flax. Dr. Johanna Budwig has a recipe probably valuable to you called Oleolox, since you don't use dairy much. I'd be cooking onions and garlic gently and well in your case, to also both reduce vata and the harsh energetics on your emotional and spiritual body. For vata conditions, our experience with triphala is to take soaked in hot water like a tea, rather than tablets. Not very tasty, though we taste what we need...sometimes it can actually be appealing! I left home 6 weeks ago without usual supply and would love a cup right now... One other thought to share. If there is opportunity to regularly use organic essential oils, especially the low temperature and pressure distilled, and those most directly oxygenating, you will probably find them also very helpful with needed prana and calming. Sandalwood will likely be very kind addition too if affordable, one drop touched on all chakra areas. Also on canker sores, being cooling, thickly unctuous, and antiviral. We have a blend very helpful with migraine pain, but your whole body/big picture enquiry is so much wiser for long term results!
