Dear Respected Members

In school days, due to excessive driving of 2 wheeler, I had severe

back pain which stopped after some time and keeps coming and goin on

and off depending on stress placed on the back.

Nowadays I am getting this pain more often. I am lookning for some

method to permanently stengthen the back either via internal, medicine,

exercises and a combination of both. due to this back pain I had

restricted my exercising and am slightly overweight on account of lack

of exercise and lide style.

Request your sincere advise for strengthening my back.

Thanks in Advanace

Ayurveda In Low Back Ache

The physical body is a manifestation of our life force, imbalances in

the life force produces diseases. The biological humors are merely

three different status (or) orientation of the life force. Because of

lack of proper physical exercise, the energy level in the body becomes

low and leads of lot of diseases.

Now a days we can tell that there is no house without a vehicle.

Because of driving two & four wheelers in Chennai traffic, most of the

people suffering from either Neck pain (or) Backache.

In Back ache, there are different verities, mild, moderate, severe. It

starts as general pain in Lumbar & hip region and increases while

doing any hard work. Commonly backache may be due to constipation,

Acidity or catches.

In some chronic cases, pains radiates to thigh and ends in lateral half

of the foot. In some person they develops Numbness, electric shock

like feeling when they walk in any hard surface. In this stage we

call it as " Gridhrasi " (Sciatica) where there are not able to stretch

the leg because of pulling pain, disturbed sleep, heaviness in the leg

etc. In radiological Examination shows osteophytes in Lumbar Vertebra

or The disc protrusion (or) prolapsed.

Women suffer more than men. Because over weight also play

important role in this low backache. Mostly individuals above 40

years they have excruciating pain in lower back area. It may due to

Osteoporotic changes in the bone.

In modern medicine advices traction, analgesic pills (or) Infrared Rays to

reduce the pain. But the relief will be temporary

and pain starts after one or two months.

In Ayurveda we consider it as increase of Vata in the nerves, bones,

and muscles. So the treatement also based on to bring down the Vata to Normal

level.

Anti Vata Kashayam and Gulikas will bring the Vata to normal level as

well as External oileation and sudation therapies like Elakkizhi,

Podikizhi, Navarakizhi, Kadeevasthi.

Dear Mr. Raman,

I would like to share with you my own experience as my

case was exactly similar to yours. I too started

getting back pain, some times severe right from my

college days way back since around 1952 when I was

hardlt 21.

It used to subside after some time. So I went on

neglecting it till it became too severe to bear it.

But even after repeated visits to many orthopedics and

alternate therapists including a very famous homeopath

at Pune, I could not get enough relief beyond some

temporary respite.

Finally, it became so severe that some famous

orthopedics including one who was a member of the team

of surgeons who had operated upon former prime

minister of India, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee for his

total knee replacement surgery for both his knees, all

opined that even if I underwent spinal surgery, I

could not hope to be normal beyond feeling somewhat

better in doing my daily chores.Because of my

restricted movements, I went on putting on weight that

resulted into a severe heart attack (MI) in 1982. I

had no hopes of survival, was just counting my last few

days of life when the Great Good Lord helped me. I

take it that God appeared in the garb of a bird and

then of a dog. Copying just some instinctive movements

that common sparrows go on doing like twiching their

tail portion up and down while jumping from one branch

of a tree to another and then suddenly taking to the

skies, I started twitching my feet in the same style

with the same tining. That started helping me a lot.

Thereafter, I tried to stretch the way dogs do before

taking to a run. but in my own way. I was convinced

about it after reading the story of back pain of a

very famous Himalayan Yogi Swami Shivanand of

Hrishikesh at the foot of the mighty Himalays. When he

was unable to climb a hill to go up for praying at a

temple due to severe backache, he closed his eyes,

perhaps in prayer and started walking on all fours and

went right up the hill without any trouble.

Once, I too closed the doors of my room to make sure

that no one could see. Then I started walking on all

fours, that is both hands and feet on the ground and

started walking like a monkey, my pain vanished. That

made me devise some simple spinal exercises that are

started doing instinctively like the birds and the

dogs. Within a couple of weeks, my back pain not only

disappeared but those exercises done for 3 to 5

minutes before getting up from the bed each time when

I slept or when ever I felt too tired, I used to get a

new feeling of freshness as never before.

Then a senior allopathic doctor from India's most

famous five-star hospital, namely the Indrapratha

Apollo Hospital at Delhi was brought to me by a friend

who was his father-in-law because he did not want to

undergo spinal surgery as suggested by all his senior

surgeon colleagues (he being a physician and a

nephrologist), may be due to his previous knowledge of

many failed spinal surgeries while he was working at

the Indian Army's Command Hospital at Pune before

retirement. He was bed-ridden for almost three months

without any hopes of ever resumong his work.

Both his father-in-law and his wife were holding him

on both sides for support to help him walk to me after

getting down from the vehicle. He was even unable to

sit on a chair due to that excruciating pain. I asked

him to lie down on a flat bed comfortably. The moment

his pain was a little less and he felt a little

comfortable, I guided him in doing the same exercises

for five to seven minutes. Then I asked the doc to get

up and walk.

To every one's amazement including his own, he could

walk almost normally without any support and admitted

that he felt much better. Wirhin a fortnight, he was

up on his feet again, restarted his hectic medical

practice and wrote me a nice letter thanking me

profusely. You can read that letter on my website:

<www.atbsnr.com under its link on Patient Feedback.

I am happy to say that it is now 11 years that he is

without any back pain playing his favourite golf daily

and attending to his work at the hospital as well as

ar his private clinic having a roaring med. practice.

He often goes abroad for attending medical conferences

on behalf of the Apollo Hospital or otherwise without

any problem.

But the best thing he told me was that if his patients

complained of any back pain as most people have these

days, he was giving them the same exercises and they

too got relief.

Thereafter, he had even introduced me to his colleague

Dr. R. K. Tuli, a retired Indian Air Force doctor who

is nowworking as HoD (head of the department) of

Holistic Health department of Apollo whose compounder

(doc's assistant who gives out medicines that the doc

recommends) was having back pain. When I made that

compounder do the same exercises, he was instantly

relieved of his pain and discomfort.

Seeing that, Dr. Tuli also got interested and learned

those exercises and promised to me that he would help

spread that word in and around the capital twin-city

of New Delhi and old Delhi. But docs are so busy with

their lucrative medical practice that they even don't

care to reply to my letters asking for feedback.

This much for the time being as I got a bit tired at

75 years of my age. The rest of the story is all given

at that website. Please visit the entire website in

toto and cure yourself for the rest of your life so

that you can enjoy the blissful feeling generated by

those exercises done instinctively.

That way, you can not only cure yourself but also

ensure that your remain in the company of that Creator

of the Universe Whoever He may be.

Wishing you speedy recovery,

Hari Om!

Such pain can be irradicated with yoga and marma therapy.

No doubt.

This is a mild problem which can easily be irradicated.
