Guest guest
Dear Vaidya, I have a patient who has suffered from Lung Sarcadosis for over 10 years. She is Kapha dosha and grossly overweight due to the steroid medication. The disease is characterized by the appearance of granulomas, or small clusters of inflamed cells, that can appear inside or outside the body. Although sarcoidosis can attack any organ, it is most commonly found in the lungs, as in this case. I am thinking of prescribing Trikatu, but I am worried this may be too heating and cause inflammation and make her condition worse. The other option is Licorice and/or Gudduchi to clean the blood etc along with Kapha pacifying diet and Pranayama. I would be grateful if Dr Bhate, Dr Venu Gopal or anyone else can offer me some advise. Thanks Ray
Guest guest
Dear Ray, Vaidyas cant treat someone searching for symptoms of various disease names. They will examine patient according to ayurvedic principles and offer lifestyle changes dietary changes and yoga/breathing suggestions. After your mention of term sarcoidosis, author searched the info at: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/dci/Diseases/sarc/sar_whatis.html A patient with some symptoms and history approached 4 years ago. Disturbed heart rhythms, missing a beat after every 12-14 beats. Eye symptoms: reddish eyes, sometimes double or blurred vision, light sensitivity Weakness in calf muscles, but no pain. Slurr in speech, walking gait like a drunkard. Red or purplish pimples on upper skin of foot. similar to erythema nodosum (erithemah nodo'sum) described at the above website. Tiredness, fatigue, weakness Patient was working as administrative clerk in a chemical factory manufacturing insecticides. He was working in day shift only. He presented a MRI report stating granuloma near pituitary gland. Most of symptoms appeared at age 36 and once he found walking and balancing himself difficult, he was voluntarily(?) retired by the employer. The flare up worsened after this as a result of depression. children had not started earning by this time. wife took up some work which did not require 9 to 5 attendance. The disease was 18 years old when patient approached this author. Author did not know that it was " sarcoidosis " . Pulse, other tests, erruptions, muscle weakness, MRI report all indicated Vata disorder, caused by Pitta (Chemical poisoning at workplace by breathing). Fortunately patient did not have any lung trouble. Treatment protocol: Patient was given 8 day liver detox first. After that following treatments going on: 1. Panchgavya medicines to dissolve small tumors (granuloma) which have all blood purification and liver herbs such as Kanchnar, Chopchini, Daruharidra, Katuki, Yeshtimadhu, Trifla, ginger, turmeric, anantmul, bhumiamalki etc 2. a mixture of mucuna prurians seeds and aswagandha root powder, in a very small quantity licked in honey thrice a day 3. Breathing techniques to increase cerebro spinal fluid production in brain. 4. Aswagandha ksheer pak at bedtime. Sometimes pumpkin seed powder ksheerpak was also given. While costly Brihat Vat chintamani Ras did not show any result, the above simple and more or less inexpensive treatment reduced his flares considerably and he is now able to at least take a morning walk with walking stick. Treatment is going for last 4 years. Heart beats normalized in a month only. Speech is OK now, vision also OK. muscular weakness still bothers him a little. One lady aged 36, a mother of two children in similar situation, was having muscular weakness in waist, unable to balance only upper torso, had vision distortion and hair-loss as other symptoms. She was given only hormone balancer panchgavya medicine " Nari Sanjivani " and remaining treatments were same as given to earlier patient. She could regain complete muscular strength and balance in 3 months. But once, when author was out-of-station, she had to take 2 synthetic progesteron capsules (prescribed by a ob-gyn) to delay the cycles as " Ganesh Puja " , a festival lasting 10 days, was arriving and menses would pose a hurdle. a week after the capsules, her condition worsened, she started loosing whole body balance and it took panchkarma treatment spanning one month to restore the conditions back to complete balance of the body. See how much damage just two capsules of synthetic hormones can do! As far as your patient is concerned, a liver detox is a must, since steroidal damage has to be cleared first. fatty liver, sugar/carb craving as a result of immuno suppression. Strict Kapha pacifying diet may be followed. The non availability of symptoms, pulse check etc limits this authors thinking. Long treatment, trust on vaidya, availability of good herbs/formulations, willingness of the patient to undergo panch karma or similar detoxification scheme will hold the key to success. Patinets background, mind/body/soul balance will also determine the results. Since in southern lattitudes, seasons and balancing the herbal approach also presents a challenge. The gradually increasing dosages of the treratment in your mind followed by close supervision may not pose dangers. Frequent monitoring and mid-course corrections was the strategy which helped this author in tackling many situations where no clear classification of the disease/treatment protocol was available. Trust of the patient plays important role since sometimes corrections become necessary and patient should not feel that he is " being experimented upon " . Unless he/she agrees with this type of approach, results cant be achieved. ayurveda , " raynoronha " <raynoronha wrote: > I have a patient who has suffered from Lung Sarcadosis for over 10 > years. Guest guest
Dear Dr Bhate, Thank you for your advice. It all makes sense, as from Nadi Vigyan diagnosis there are problems with Gall Bladder, Spleen and extreme problems with Liver possibly from the steroid. From Ayurvedic diagnosis she showed Pitta imbalance and subdoasha pulse came up with Ranjaka Piita. With the Liver detox, I will adhere to your 8 day programme. Is it okay to give Dandelion tea or Aloe vera or is this too much? Thanks Ray ayurveda , " Shirish Bhate " <shirishbhate wrote: > > Dear Ray, > > Vaidyas cant treat someone searching for symptoms of various disease > names. This program without Panchkarma is very weak, but without seeing the patient, it can be said to be safe. Is it > okay to give Dandelion tea or Aloe vera or is this too much? This can not be told on net, since each individual differs in how much his body will take. allopathy has formulae as so many mg per kg of body weight, where the body is treated as a plant. Many patients are sensitive with some medicines and vaidya should play safe. a vaidya who cures fast is not necessarily better than who cures slow but sure and without worries. In the absense of clear opinion, you can go by small and then gradually increasing dosage. Author is of the opinion that the medicines should be minimised with body allowed to use her own internal doctor. regards.
