Guest guest
OneLove, While sweet is easy to recognize -- most ripe fruits, for example, what are examples of, say, astringent tastes? For astringent, I'd think " lemon " , but that's sour, isn't it? Or can something be both? For bitter, I know some herbs are described as bitter. Would taking " Swedish Bitters " be a good way for sure of getting ones bitters? I guess pungent would be the onions: onion, garlic, leek, scallion, radish. And now I'm missing one, because my cut and paste didn't work? Salty? What's salty beyond salt? I searched around today and while I can find dosha tests and food recommendations for the doshas, I can't find a chart that lists foods under the " Six Tastes " categories. Could you direct? Thank you! pc
Guest guest
I would be interested in seeing a list like this as well. -Jen
Guest guest
Hi PC The six tastes in relation to food is listed in the Ayurveda Self Guide here http://health./files Also it is in the book Ayurvedic Cooking by Dr. Vasant Lad. Swedish bitters is used to enliven and strengthen digestion. PlanetaryFormulas.com makes one called Digestive Grape Bitters. The ayurvedic formula that is similar is called Drakscha. Best to boil off the alcohol since alcohol is very heating. Kind regards OneLove Cat <pink_cat_6 wrote: > OneLove, > While sweet is easy to recognize -- most ripe > fruits, for example, > what are examples of, say, astringent tastes? > > For astringent, I'd think " lemon " , but that's sour, > isn't it?
