Hi

I have been following this group for a while now but I am writing

for the first time. I am an Indian who went abroad for studies to

Europe 4 years ago. Prior to my trip I never had any major skin

problems.

While i was there I had a very hi-protein diet - lots of chicken,

meat, fish, kideny beans, chickpeas, cheese, diary and because it

was so cold lot of spices - red chilli pepper pickles and yes a lot

of chinese takeaways too.Not to mention the backpacking without

adequate protection. After I came back to Mumbai where the weather

was hot and humid unfortunately I continued with the same hi-protein

diet..The problem started with flushing, went on to huge ugly red

acne and burning and itching on the face. When I consulted my

dermatologist she put me on antibiotics, asked me to stay out of the

sun, and suggested I should not have any spicy food which in India

is like asking a fish to stay out of water!

Its been one and half years now.The problem has got worse, its

spreading to the rest of my body and I am on antibiotics for the

better part of the year. I was recently told about a famous

ayurvedic doctor and visited him. He has put me on an anti-pitta

diet for atleast 1 year and I cannot eat the following.

1. Non-vegetarian food (not even eggs)

2. Cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, Capsicum, aubergine, green

Onions, French beans

3.Peas, Kidney beans, chick peas and corn

4.Pineapple

5.All sour foods including tamarind

6.No alcohol, cigarettes

7.Aerated drinks

8.All fermented foods (those containing yeast) including bread

9.Tomatoes

10.White radish

11.Raw onions

12.Food having too much salt – sauces and pickles including soya,

oyster, tomato, barbeque and Worcestershire sauce, vinegar

13.Heating spices, Cinnamon, red chilli, black cardamom, bay leaf,

black pepper

Well what am I supposed to eat - Only food cooked in ghee, cooling

foods, fennel, lightly steamed vegetables(never raw too much strain

on liver), turmeric, cumin, coriander, mint, pancakes out of freshly

kneaded wheat dough and water(called rotis), all lentils except

bengal gram, basmati rice, coconut milk(used for making gravies

instead of tomato), coconut water, rose jam(made of rose petals and

raw sugar), squash, cucumber, zucchini, potatoes.

He has also asked me to eat some very bitter tasting medicine

(bitterness balances pitta) and has asked me to do the panchkarma as

soon as possible . Since I have recently started working I do not

have the time for the 22 day cleansing programme.

What is keeping me going on this diet and medication are the success

stories I have heard. A friend's uncle had oozing eczema and was

cured, another's mother had Alzheimer's and is now progressing. I

started the treatment on 25th December 2004 and the doctor has told

me it will take an year before I get completely alright. I have not

gone out during the day for one and a half years now. It home –car-

office- home-same routine everyday. I hope to fight this and win.

And I wish you all the best for your struggles.
