Whole Grains?

Hi OneLove

you recommend a diet centred around whole grains, but the guidelines

for the group recommend basmati rice - why not whole grain rice,

which is the whole grain?

What about pasta? Should this be whole wheat only?

I am still persevering and awaiting improvement in the rosacea,

following 8 liver cleanses, but need to make sure the diet is correct.

Many thanks

I jsut joined this group a few days ago.

I am currently seeing a naturopathic doctor and its been about 4 months now.

For my rosacea, my doctor said no white or wheat flour.

I am a big pastas lover, so she said I could have pasta only twice a month,

and it HAD to be rice pasta, no white/wheat pasta allowed.

Other recommendations she gave was Vitamin C 10,000 IU's Day,

16,000 Vit A, Glutathione Tablets 500 MG, Fish Oil (Liquid) and weekly B

Shots.

Sp far. my rosacea has disappeared on the left side of my face, my chin, and

mt forehead, but right side of face is being stubborn. So thats why I joined

this group, and I plan on doing the liver cleanses often until rosacea

disappeared. Will be buying the book recommended by this group.

Hope this helps you and anyone else here.

May Health and Healing Be Yours!

Sue

Hi Steve

Excellent question. In prior posts here, I have tried

to emphasize cooking basmati rice and the grain called

quinoa together half and half. Quinoa is high in

fiber. It is available at the health food store.

Below is information on the long time debate of white

rice versus brown rice. Regarding pasta, I recommend

whole grain pasta. However I would be moderate with it

during the cleansing phase. After all is said and

done, you need to listen to what your body tells you.

All the best

White and Brown Rice

Excerpt from The Ayurvedic Cookbook

By Amadea Morningstar

White basmati rice is the one grain which is tridoshic

in effect; it can be eaten by all constitutions with

benefit. It is slightly cooling, sweet, light, and

moist. It is useful in calming an irritated or

inflamed gut. Because it is lighter than many other

grains, it can be eaten by Kapha in small quantities.

Its coolness, sweetness and moisture are valuable for

Pitta. And its sweet moist attributes balance Vata. It

is easy to digest.

Brown rice does not have the same effects as white

basmati rice. Brown rice is more warming, heavy,

moist, and rough in effect. It is sweet and astringent

in nature. These qualities make it balancing for Vata;

it grounds, warms, and moistens. These same qualities

are slightly imbalancing for Pitta and Kapha.

Sometimes the roughness of brown rice can irritate the

gut compared to white basmati.

In my experience, its high fiber content and abundance

of B vitamins alleviate constipation. It is also one

of the most grounding of grains. Prepared half and

half with barley, brown rice can be an appropriate

grain for Pitta. Both rice and barley are reputed to

dispel fatigue in Ayurvedic practice. Wild rice is

similar to brown rice in its qualities and effects.

However, it is fifty percent higher in protein which

makes it slightly more warming in its action.
