I do apologise for this long read, I like to express myself and be

as thorough as possible. Sorry!

I've just stated below about my Rosacea symptoms and questions about

cleansing/Diet etc. that I have.

How Rosacea has affected me

-----------------------------

I've been suffering with Rosacea for over a year. I think it started

during a stressful time in my life. When coming back from abroad

(Feb 2003), I noticed that I had a red blotches on my face.

Sometimes they'd disappear and then they would reappear. I knew

something wasn't right. A few months later, I'd get hot burning

flushes and the texture of my skin had changed for the worse. This

was getting me so down and my stress was getting worse.

I visited the Dr about this and told him of my symptoms, he said

that there's nothing that can be done about this and

I'm very sensitive to Ultra violet light and should wear sun block

at all times. This really upset me. Anyway, I researched a lot on

the Internet and noticed that my symptoms were similar to someone

with Rosacea.

As my symptoms were getting worse (acne, very oily skin, itchiness,

flushing, burning and red skin), I told the Dr that I wanted to be

referred to a Dermatologist. I was referred on June 2003. The

dermatologist confirmed my suspicions and told me that I had Rosacea

as well as Acne. Due to certain creams having no effect on me, at

the end of June I was prescribed Tetralysal Lymecycline 300mg. The

course was for 3 months. During this 3 month course I felt my

symptoms were getting worse. My acne was especially bad and covered

my whole face.

After taking the antibiotics for only 7 days, I noticed that my

stomach was very bloated. I also had several other issues with my

stomach while being on antibiotics e.g. blood in the fetes, pain,

constipation, diarrhoea, gurgling and hunger pains, cramps etc. etc.

I had a series of tests on November 2003 which included a

Gastroscopy, Sigmoidoscopy and an Ultra Sound. The specialist said

that I am suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome and should reduce

my wheat intake. I did but I still had a bloated stomach and a lot

of pain. After seeing a dietician, I have taken pro-biotics for 2

months. It's been nearly a year since I took antibiotics and I still

have that bloated stomach L The pain varies from day to day.

In regard to my skin, after the course of antibiotics, I was

prescribed an antibiotic solution – Aknemycin Plus for my acne. This

did not help at all. On October 2003 I started taking Roaccutane

20mg (daily), this low dose has improved my skin texture and my acne

has disappeared. I was on Roaccutane until April 2004 (a 6 month

course). The Roaccutane has helped the acne but it hasn't helped the

swelling, flushing, burning and the red skin.

The Dermatologist has now put me on an antibiotic gel to ease the

redness and flushing. Unfortunately this hasn't helped at all.

Please note that I am currently taking homeopathic medicine. I'm

eager to try anything if it helps.

I still have many symptoms and I'm sure part of it is related to

stress. I am still very stressed about work, personal issues, my

skin etc.

Symptoms include:

As soon as I wake up my face has a tingly burning sensation. It's

fairly pinkish and not my natural colour. When I wash my face with

cold (not freezing) water in the morning and evening, my nose turns

bright red. It takes about 10 minutes or more to disappear. When I

walk outside, e.g. to my car or during lunch it was fairly windy and

cold outside, my nose turns very red (I reside in the UK). When I

walk into my office, it is still red and stays like this for quite a

while.

Sometimes after lunch, when I'm in the office, my face starts to

feel a tingly sensation feeling, it then warms up and my nose and

cheeks turn red. I've also noticed that my ears can become very red

& swollen, but this isn't every time my face turns red. To touch,

the affected areas are very hot. I think my face turns like this due

to the heating in the building or due to food. It stays red like

this for over five hours but sometimes it's less. The redness calms

down as soon as I go home. I work in a building that provides air-

conditioning and controlled heating. Sometimes it can become very,

very warm. I find that whenever the heating is on, my nose and

cheeks turn very red. My face always feels warm to touch and I feel

a burning sensation. The funny thing is that my hands and feet are

always cold to touch and sometimes I can feel very chilly and get

goose bumps, even though my face is burning hot. As soon as I have a

severe attack, that's when my whole body starts to feel hot.

Sometimes when I'm laughing a lot, I feel the blood rush to my face.

This happens with most emotions. I go to the gym in the mornings (4-

5 times a week) and I usually do 20 minutes on a stepper, bike etc.

and then I run for 20 minutes on the treadmill. This is followed by

weights and sit-ups. I usually feel very, very hot and heated up. My

face then turns a ruddy red colour and I've also noticed that my

hands and palms are also very dark pink/red. I always used to run

and workout in the gym and I never felt like this before. The

redness always varies whilst in the gym. Some days it would be a

pinkie colour and other times it would be bright red. But there is a

lot of heat inside me and it takes quite a while for my body

temperature to return to normal.

When I go out for dinner, most restaurants are crowded and warm. My

face instantly burns, turns red on my nose and cheeks and is very

hot to touch. I can't eat hot foods/drinks as I usually flush.

Due to cooking, my face flushes a lot and turns very red. It's

usually very warm in the kitchen. I even leave the windows open, but

this makes no difference to my face. Due to being upset about my

face and crying a lot, my face turns even redder. I always have a

horrible burning feeling on my nose and cheeks. I also notice that

when my nose turns red and is swollen, I see a lot of sweat drops on

the nose and on my upper lip.

When I'm leaning down to write something or bending forward, I

always flush on my cheeks and nose. I always feel the blood rush to

my face and I have a burning feeling on my face. As soon as I move

in a vertical position, it takes about 15 minutes or more for the

face to return to its natural colour.

The weather has started to improve in the UK and it's not as cold

outside. However my nose still turns red when there's a little wind.

Even if it's about 17 degrees and the sun is out, I walk during

lunch and my face starts to feel a tingly sensation due to the Sun.

I have many, many more triggers and sometimes I just flush for no

reason what so ever. This is getting me very down as I want it to

get better. My twin sister is getting married in a few months and I

really want to enjoy her wedding and be happy for her, but it's

difficult when I have to be careful about anything I do L This forum

and all your comments have given me some hope. I really want to

start the cleanse but I don't even know where to start. I do hope

these cleanses provide a cure.

Questions about the cure and cleansing

-----

1) It states in " The Rosacea Cure: A Natural Approach " document that

the procedures have been informally tested and produce a cure. Yet,

it also states " Once you are cured through internal cleansing, a

health supporting diet according to your Ayurvedic body type will

maintain the cure. Do not expect the cure to last if you plan to

return to a modern diet high in animal meat, homogenized pasteurized

dairy products, fried foods, saturated fat, refined white sugar, and

refined white flour. "

I am a very healthy eater and enjoy eating fruit and vegetables. I

also love eating fish, chicken, skimmed milk with shredded wheat,

low-fat yoghurts, bagels (5 times a week), wholemeal bread, lentils

etc. I very rarely eat saturated fat. I usually eat a lot of chicken

and fish as I exercise a lot and want to eat these types of

proteins. Does that mean I shouldn't drink milk, eat bagels and eat

too much chicken and fish? Or were you referring to not eating all

the above food groups when I am in the cleansing stage? If so, what

is the duration of e.g 3 liver cleanses and an Ayurvedic cleanse

(which will be done during the end of the 2nd Liver cleanse)? Also,

if I don't eat organic food, does that mean that the Rosacea will

come back? Surely if I can't eat these types of healthy foods, then

these cleanses will not really be a cure. I do understand that you

should eat everything in moderation and am willing to trying

anything to get rid of my Rosacea. I'm just a bit confused about the

word cure, because it can be very misleading.

2) In regard to the Ayurvedic body type, how do I find this out? I

assume I'm pitta at the moment due to the heat in my body, but will

this change after I have done my series of cleanses and hopefully

get better? I was browsing the Internet and found a lot of

information on Ayurvedic body types. Whilst reading the information,

it seemed that I could be more than one body type. How can I be sure

what body type I really am and where can I find this for myself as

opposed to meeting an Ayurvedic consultant?

3) I have read so much about these cleanses and I am confused as to

which ones I really need to do. Liver cleanse, Ayurvedic Cleansing

(enema, purgation, emesis, nasal cleansing, blood cleansing), kidney

cleanse, Parasite cleanse, pre-cleanse and post-cleanse colonic?

Also, what order does these cleanses need to be in? I read that you

recommend 3 liver cleanses and then an Ayurvedic cleanse, is that

ok? If a pre-cleanse and post-cleanse colonic is required, how long

do I leave this before and after I start the liver cleanse? Do I for

example do the pre-cleanse in the evening and next morning start the

liver cleanse and then the next day do the post-cleanse for colonic?

Please note that for the colonic cleanse, I would prefer to do this

at home. Would this still be as effective as seeing a specialist?

I've also read in many messages that I would need to take the

following while in my cleansing stages:

Acidophilus capsules

Aloe vera juice

burdock root and dandelion root

Triphala

Milk Thistle Seeds

Are all these essential?

4) In regard to the External oleation. It says that the next 5 days,

apply 8 ounces of warm (not hot) Sunflower oil to your body from

head to toe, rubbing it in well for 15 to 20 minutes. Does that

include your face? It also states that I then remove the oil in a

hot shower or bath with a natural soap. I don't take hot showers and

baths anymore, because this is one of my main triggers. Do I still

need to do this?

5) What Books do you feel are essential for me to read? I will

probably get the following before I start my cleanse:

The Amazing Liver Cleanse by Andreas Moritz

The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies - Dr. Vasant Lad

Are there any others that you think would be needed? Is a detailed

description of the Ayurvedic cleanse described in the above book? Or

are the instructions on the document " Ayurvedic Cleansing " suffice?

6) I love to exercise as mentioned above and that is one thing that

I won't change as I enjoy it too much and it's one of the things

that make me happy. I love to run and I enjoy toning up with

weights. I know exercise is one of my triggers and I tend to flush

and get heated up, but would I need to stop exercising due to the

cleanse? I don't understand how exercising would make me worse,

especially if the cleanse works and I'm supposedly cured.

Thank you for your time :(

Welcome Mani

I am sorry to hear you have rosacea. I have provided

answers to your questions below.

The diet recommendations for this group are modeled

after the principles of Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine

where the energetic nature of food is primary. This

is a diffrent perspective from the western model in

defining healthy foods. The books I mention below will

expand your understanding regarding food and health.

Yes, it is during the cleansing phase that you should

avoid the foods you mention like animal meat, dairy,

and refined flour. When you no longer have the

symptoms of rosacea, you can then return to a more

liberal diet in accord with your specific body type.

The liver cleanse and the ayurvedic cleanse need to

be spaced at least two weeks apart. Organic food is

always the best choice. However, the most important

factor for preventing rosacea from coming back is

having a body that is free of congestion and excess

heat. Maintenance cleansing, body type diet,

circulation of energy, and stress free living are key.

I define cure as no longer having the symptoms of

rosacea. However, living a life of balance is

essential to prevent the accumulation of congestion

and excess heat.

>2) In regard to the Ayurvedic body type, how do I

find this out? I

How can I be sure

>what body type I really am and where can I find this

for myself as

Everyones body type is set at birth. For example, I am

a air (vata) body type, but when I had rosacea, I had

a fire (pitta) imbalance. Most people are not one

singular body type but a combination of two. You can

determine your body type through the question and

answer lists in the books I reference. However, it can

sometimes be ambigous. If that is the case, then I

recommend consulting with a professional for a precise

diagnosis of your body type.

>3) I have read so much about these cleanses and I am

>which ones I really need to do. Liver cleanse,

Ayurvedic Cleansing

>(enema, purgation, emesis, nasal cleansing, blood

>cleanse, Parasite cleanse, pre-cleanse and

post-cleanse colonic?

Focus on the liver cleanse and ayurvedic cleanse. The

kidney cleanse is recommended after every third liver

cleanse.

>Also, what order does these cleanses need to be in? I

read that you

The protocols for the liver cleanse and ayurvedic

Triphala is used in the ayurvedic cleanse. These items

are not essential, but they do support accelerated

healing.

>4) In regard to the External oleation. It says that

Yes, that includeds the face and head. The hot water

helps to open the channels in the body for the removal

of toxins and heat. There could be an initial increase

in symptoms in order to remove symptoms. Let your

intuition be your guide.

>5) What Books do you feel are essential for me to

The Amazing Liver Cleanse book plus Ayurvedic Healing

by Dr. David Frawley and Live In The Balance by Linda

Prout are the best introductory books. The instructions in

the document Ayurvedic Cleansing is complete.

>6) I love to exercise as mentioned above and that is

Walking is the exercise I recommend during the

cleansing healing process. Vigorous exercise can be

too forceful in circulating excess heat in the body

which tends to increase symptoms. You will need to

gauge this for yourself

>Thank you for your time :(

You are welcome. If you have any further questions,

feel free to ask.

All the best

Thanks OneLove,

I have now ordered the books and will probably start my first liver

cleanse in a couple of weeks.

The only thing that I may not fully follow is my exercise regime,

but I will cut it down if my symptoms get worse.

Thanks again for all your help on this.
