Guest guest
I was just curious if anyone who has rosacea has actually tried these things. I think it is strange because it is in direct contrast to what Brady Barrows, author of the rosacea diet outlines as a way to control or get rid of rosacea symptoms. His diet is all about high protein, no carb no sugar diet. This obviously is a diet high in animal protein and cheeses and nuts and eggs etc. And there are some people who swear by it( I am not one of them) Was way to strict and bland for me I couldnt do it, well I did it for a month and than was very disheartened with not having any visible improvement in my skin. ANyway, I was just wondering if anyone has actually implemented any of the " cures " suggested here and if they actually " cured " anyone? thanks Amon
Guest guest
Welcome Amon The process outlined for this group is still fairly new to most. How closely and for how long people are following the cleansing and diet modifications I can not say for certain. We have started to receive some positive reports. One is posted here http://health./message/83 The Rosacea Diet book by Brady Barrows I have read is similar to the Atkins diet. I have written about the Atkins diet and rosacea in a prior post here http://health./message/49 Since writing that post, I have also read about the concerns regarding the low fiber content of the Atkins type diet and the possible strain on the kidneys from the high protein content. Feel free to ask any further questions. Sincerely OneLove Original Message I was just curious if anyone who has rosacea has actually tried these things. Guest guest
Glad to see Atkins diet mentioned. I started that diet in Jan. Is the Brady book preferred for curing rosacea? Allowing for only 20gms of carbs a day. Which is basically 1 leaf of lettuce. LOL. Well you get the drift. He has his own group on as well I believe there is a link to it in the Rosacea Support Highlights Group. Anyway, I have been doing the HIGH protein thing for almost 6 months now and my skin looks not 1 bit better. So...I dont know, I guess everyone is different and has a different body. I tried many different diet ideas. Like the blood type diet, I am a type o- which says I am also to have lots of protein. And I tried an acne free diet, was horrid. And I also tried the fasting idea with deinking only lemon juice with water on fast dys , this is supposed to cleanse your system and help improve your skin. Well that didnt do anything either. I am at the point now where I am just going to try to eat sensibly. I think many of these diets seem to have logical rationals for their claims, but I myself have not seen any benefit from them. Thats just me, for anyone it has worked for...GREAT, I am happy for you and you are lucky. So...again, I would think seriously about making huge diet modifications before doing it. Also interesting to note...it seems when I eat meat my face gets very warm, pink. Its all sort of puzzling. Sometimes I seem to get red/pink at the most seemingly benign things. And than sometimes things you would think would really make me flush dont. I think I must be an alien or something. Well if you have any other questions about that diet let me know. As I said, he has a whole group of followers who swear by it, I participated heavily over the summer and into fall but got very depressed by it when it did nothing to help my skin. Try to stay positive, Amon
Guest guest
Hi CT With due respect to Brady Barrows, his Rosacea Diet is not recommended for the reasons outlined in the article link below. Guest guest
Hello all: I think I have an idea about what I should eat, but have developed quite an addiction to food that has become a real problem. Thus I was eating all the wrong things and too much of them. I'm working very hard on eating properly for all the obvious reasons. I developed rosacea about ten years ago and was told [by a dermatalogist] if I used Metro gel, it would keep it under control. Subsequent to that, I learned that Metro gel is an antiseptic to kept germs at bay. That made me wonder how an antiseptic could have anything to do with my increasing blushing which I believed had to do with rosacea. When I was in 40s and 50s, I developed blushing. Because I was pre-men. and then menopausal, I didn't think much about it since many pre and post menopausal women have flushes. But since I am now long past the menopause and still get these very strong flushes, I began thinking something else is going on. Now I know its related to rosacea. Of late (since Jan.) I've been trying again to eat right. I have been following the Atken diet as I believe his theory is close to what I should be following, no sugar and minimal carbs. I believe that it was sugar and carbs that got me where I am, and reducing sugar and carbs will get me out of it. I don't intend to follow it religiously but sensibly. Obviously we all need some carbs. Nor do I feel that it's right [for me] to consume so much fat. Maybe that’s just conditioning, I don't know.... I've never been much of a fat eater, so its no great loss to not eat as much fat. Although I do take a fair bit of flax seed oil daily. I also take a morning drink that consists of: spiralina, a high quality yeast that does not (so far) lead to yeast infection, lechithin, ginkgo [which so far is having no effect on memory as they promised it would!] and ground flax seed oil. I am a little concerned about the pitta diet as it allows fruit, sweets, and more carbs than I'd like to eat. But I think if I leave out sweets and some of the carbs, that the benefits will probably be increased The last week has been a really gruelling one for me as I have been moving more and more toward the total elimination of sugar. I swear, it couldn't have been any more difficult if I was giving up tobacco or alcohol. The urge is so strong and difficult to deal with especially when my feet start walking toward the sugar store! It is a big hump and I am grateful to be on the other side. This list and the prospect of doing the plan helps too. I believe getting over that hump is what makes the different. It’s the lesson I have to re-learn every time, taking control of my urges - if I'm going to succeed. At some point I had to simply stop eating so much. It really is simple, but not easy. Those who promote their commercial diet plans, and diet centres want us to believe it will be soooo easy - if we just follow their plan. Well, in my opinion, if anyone hopes to be one of the 3% who actually succeeds in changing their diet, you have to, at some point, stop eating so much. I think I'm over step one. I don't like going to bed hungry but Gusto for breakfast is good! Sorry if this is too long. ct , " CT " <ctcomm@l...> wrote: > Glad to see Atkins diet mentioned. I started that diet in Jan. Guest guest
Hi CT Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Most health imbalances have there root cause in the modern western diet. There is a book by Jennifer Workman titled Stop Your Cravings that you might want to look at. Regarding sugar, it is white refined sugar which causes so many problems. It is absorbed into the body way too fast and disrupts the pancreas. It also causes what Chinese medicine calls dampness in the body. The five tastes including the sweet taste and food textures are necessary for a balanced diet. You will feel like something is missing if you do not include these. The pitta and vata body type do well with raw sugar. It is called " sucanat " in the health food store. The kapha body type does well with honey and fruit juice concentrate.
