To all who are afraid of Soy – soy is just a bean, and not a demon. If you cannot digest it, do not eat it – just as you would avoid another food that you cannot digest. Among beans it has the highest concentration of protein but all beans are high protein foods.

Compared to animal protein, soy (like other beans) is better because it contains no cholesterol, no fat, and does contain fibre. Before you believe that soy causes problems, or can disrupt your body’s delicate hormonal balance or any other such story that you read, please do your own research about who has researched this, who has paid them to research it, etc. You will be surprised that much of this research has been paid for by the US dairy industry. And it serves them because the soy milk industry is a fast growing one.

Don’t forget that soy was used all over South East Asia traditionally. Traditionally these countries did not have any dairy. Check out any Japanese, Chinese, Malay, or Indonesian recipe book. Only on the Indian subcontinent has milk been used traditionally as far as Asia goes. Did all these Asian people suffer hormonal imbalance all these years?

Today we do have a demon and that is Genetically Modified (GM) soy. 90% of the of the soy grown is GM and most of this is fed to farm animals to make them grow fast. So today meat or dairy is an indirect way of eating GM soy. 16 kilos of grain produce 1 kilo of meat so eating animals or consuming their secretions (milk or eggs) is the way to get the largest amount of soy indirectly. No vegan soy eater can compare with a meat eater for total amount of soy consumed directly or indirectly. GM soy has been known to cause problems to lab animals. Large amounts of soy are fed to farm animals. To be sure that your soy is not GM buy only organic.

One of the reasons that cancer has become an epidemic is because we are eating too much protein. Protein is a food for growth. If we take milk or meat or soy in large quantities when we are no longer growing, this will translate into obesity and other growths like cancers and tumours. Our problem today is not soy, but the protein addiction. (Please read The China Study by T Colin Campbell for more information and even more references for what I am saying. He has not been paid by the industry to do this research)

Many diseases have been caused by too high a protein intake – osteoporosis, heart disease, kidney diseases. Have you known someone who suffered protein deficiency (which incidentally has a name, Kwashiorkor)?

So whether you choose tofu and soy milk or dairy and meat, if you consume these in large quantities you are likely to suffer cancer, diabetes, heart disease and hypertension. The only way to prevent these diseases is to eat what nature intended us to – a variety of vegan fresh whole foods.

Genetically modified foods have been proved harmful in lab animals. Not just GM soy, but GM corn, brinjal, ladies fingers, potatoes and other plants are being grown. It’s best to choose organic non-GM foods.

Eating some soy will cause no harm and absolutely no hormonal imbalance. And even if you are vegan, eating soy is not mandatory for good health.

Yes I agree with the last line which says :"Eating some soy will cause no harm and absolutely no hormonal imbalance. And even if you are vegan, eating soy is not mandatory for good health. "Some suggested guidelines:Eat Soy like the people in South Asia do. Take fermented Soy products and limit the quantity. Where mother's milk is not sufficient give cow's milk to children in place of soy milk unless there is allergy to cow's milk. However in case of infants dilute the cow's milk about 1:1 with water before feeding. Adults may take more yogurt and curd ( not much sour) than milk. Intolerance of milk is an accepted fact.Ladies with menstrual problems should better consult a well-informed doctor whether the consumption of soy product should be continued, discontinued or reduced in those particular cases. As regards the fear of the GM

products we may not single out soy products.Nandita Shah <shahnandi wrote: To all who are afraid of Soy – soy is just a bean, and not a demon. Just to clarify, I wanted to make people aware that its often the dairy industry that funds this type of research on soy, but that 90% of the soy grown in the world is fed to animals and most of this is GM so when we take milk or meat we are indirectly taking GM soy, which has been proven harmful in lab animals.

Also it takes 16 kilos of grain to produce 1 kilo of meat, and since a large proportion of this is soy, its a way to take huge doses of GM soy indirectly.

Personally I think humans require milk in infancy and not after. Cow’s milk is the best food for the calf, and contains the right concentration of proteins, fats and minerals for a baby that has to grow to full size in 18 months. In humans its the cause of multiple diseases.
