Isn't there a long history of hallucinogenic plants used by the Masters to assist the developing student - mushrooms, seeds & many different plants offer heightened awareness when ingested - Carlos Casteneda writes extensively on this subject in his Don Juan series and surely Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert - later Ram Das - would never have followed such a spiritual direction had their eyes not been opened by their early experimentation with hallucinogens.

In the 60's even in Australia hallucinogens were used by psychiatrists to help mental disorders - so there have been periods when such ingredients were available to the "common man" - even now there are mushrooms and seeds which are available to those who know how recognise them and how to prepare and use them..

Re: [HealthyIndia] Use of psychiatric drugs on children & the consequences.

Further to the last mail on this topic I would also like to draw your attention to the fact that Patanjali's Yoga Sutra (4.1) does mention about the role of drugs to develop Psychic powers. But these were probably used by the advanced yogis or by disciples, under expert supervision of their gurus and that too within the permissible limits and restricted to the permissible types of the natural products. For ordinary people no such drug has ever been permitted in the past.
