Preventing knee replacements

I was shocked to read that two-thirds of the knee

replacement surgeries are for women who suffer more

than men (Indian Express, Pune Newsline, “Body &

Mind’, May 2, 2007). Although it is good to know that

Zimmer Gender Solutions have developed special knee

implants especially suited to women that US FDA has

also approved.

Since most women are prone to suffer knee pain as they

grow older, they are bound to become unwilling

patients for knee replacement surgery that is both

costly and not as good as the original knee.

Hence all those who get the first signs of knee pain

must start taking precautions to prevent further

deterioration. For that purpose, the Pune-based Nature

Cure Centre of the Save India Association (SIA) has

developed simple knee exercises that can be done

easily by any one to prevent further deterioration

leading to knee replacement.

Those interested can get more info from the Centre’s

helpline number 91-20-26870204.
