Vikram Jethwani | Bhopal The skeletal remains of 390 newborn children and foetuses were found in a pit behind the operation theatre of Christian Hospital in Ratlam on Saturday. The police, who searched the hospital premises following a tip-off, discovered pieces of bones packed in polythene bags scattered in a deserted area. Subsequently, a thorough search unearthed several skeletons from the pit behind the operation theatre. Superintendent of Police Satish Saxena, Sub-Divisional Officer (Police) Arun Rawal, Civil Surgeon KC Pathak and Forensic Science Laboratory official Alok Mathur rushed to the site. ''The bones are being sent for analysis,'' said Saxena. Owner of the hospital, Dr P William, clarified that pre-natal diagnostic tests and abortions were not undertaken there. ''The discovery is a conspiracy against me,'' the physician alleged. " The thickness of skulls and bones indicates that the remains are of three to four neo-nates or foetuses, " claimed district Vaccination Officer and child specialist RG Kaushal, whose advice was sought by police. Some of the remains were found in a yellow plastic bag and included parts of tissue and hair, indicating that they must have been buried after the last rainy season, he said. ''Only tests will reveal how old the remains are,'' said Kaushal. Ruling out the notion that the bones and skeletons were bio-medical waste, Kaushal claimed that skulls and bones from legs were also found. These would not form part of hospital waste, he said. Further, private nursing homes use incinerators provided by the Government to dispose of bio-medical waste, he noted. http://dailypioneer.com/indexn12.asp?main_variable=front%5Fpage & file_name=story5\ %2Etxt & counter_img=
