Aluminum and Alzheimers.

This video details the many stuff which we use regularly and which contain aluminum.Scary. We have chemicalised our lives to an extent that just living in todays world is dangerous."When we were kids our parents taught us not to lie. Jagannath, I have been concerned over aluminum for some time. I lost

my mother to Alzheimer's. It is an absolutely devastating disease! I

haven't watched the video yet but this thread has raised a question.

I recently bought a food steamer specifically to prepare vegetables

and rice. I would not buy the typical rice cookers as the bowls are

aluminum. When I found this steamer I was glad to see that all the

cooking trays were made of polycarbonate. After I used it the first

time it dawned on me that the heating element was aluminum. There is a

center chute where the element is exposed below the cooking trays,

this chute allows the steam to enter the chamber.

It made me question, does the construction of this appliance give a

false sense of safety and is it possible that there is a concentration

of elemental aluminum introduced in the steam? If so would it not be

absorbed into the food? There is residual water that accumulates on

the lid from the steam in the chamber and I thought this could be

tested to give me assurance of it's safety. Any feedback from the

group members is appreciated.

This is exactly why I posed the question to the group in the first

place. Yes i am concerned. I was / am assuming it is made of

polycarbonate, but am not sure. It is a rigid clear heavy weight

molded plastic. I should clarify that the symbol on the trays bears a

# 7. You seam very knowledgeable about plastics, maybe you can clarify

what this numeral represents.

How oxygen inadvertently helped my grandmother Back in the early 1970's my grandmother was diagnosed with alzheimers. The doctor actually indicated that my grandmother had a higher than normal level of aluminum (they used aluminum pots for cooking). As a teenager my suggestions were shuffled aside, but I'd kept asking why they couldn't get rid of the aluminum in her body. My grandmother slowly slipped into what seemed like severe dementia. By the early 80's she could barely speak intelligible words. She was trying to say something, but you couldn't understand what. At one point she came down with pneumonia and they put her in an oxygen tent. My father came to visit her and was astounded to find her sitting up and in full control of her faculties. She recognized my Dad and spoke to him clearly about a wide range of things. When my Dad told me about this (I'd moved out of the

area by then), I wanted to know if they might be able to keep her on the oxygen or treat her in some way with it. He'd asked about it and of course the doctors said it wouldn't help. My grandmother eventually recovered from pneumonia, they took her off the oxygen and she slipped back into her inability to communicate. It was very sad and upsetting on so many levels. I'd often got the chills thinking that she may have been frightfully aware of her surroundings but had lost the ability to communicate. God bless her and anyone that has had to deal with this condition. It certainly does prove the efficacy of oxygen therapy. Best, KeithJagannath Chatterjee <jagchat01 wrote: Aluminum and Alzheimers.
