Baba Remdev said pran can be used to cure a number of diseases such as the cancer, thyroid and heart ailments. His objective is to prove it to the world that the yogic procedures of regulated breathing can not only cure diseases, hitherto considered incurable by allopathic medicine, but also catapult India India into the seat of a major economic, cultural and social power. The exponent was conferred the doctor degree by Nobel Laureate Prof. Richard Ernst at a special convocation organised by the varsity. It is for the first time that he received a honorary doctorate from a university.Baba Ramdev said the degree was not just in recognition of his work but also for yoga, ayurveda and Indian culture. Modern medicine has done a lot for the mankind and it’s time for the ancient one.“I am waiting for the day when someone will get Nobel Prize for ancient medicine,” he said. Delivering the convocation address, Prof Ernst said, there should not be any discrimination in a democracy since everyone deserves education. There should be no disparity on the basis of gender.“To me, school children don’t need teachers, they need motivators,” said the man who got Nobel Prize in 1991 for his path breaking research on nuclear magnetic resonance.Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, Union Department of Science and Technology T Ramasami said the educational systems of India bear a large responsibility to prepare the youth to meet the challenges of future world.India, he said, enjoyed the opportunity to emerge as a global source of innovators. Chancellor of KIIT Achyuta Samanta termed the occasion a red letter day for the university."When we were kids our parents taught us not to lie. But today our Health Minister is trying to punish those who dare to speak the truth. God help that unfortunate fellow. It seems he has not received any education at home." - An Indian Monk.
