The surgeons of the East India Company copied his technique and rhinoplasty was introduced to the world in the 18th century. Sushruta, the son of sage Vihvamitra and a student of Dhanvantari of Kashi (Varanasi), also advocated what is today called the Caesarean operation. He was an expert in removing stones from the bladder, locating and treating fractures and doing eye operations for cataract. He could also reapair noses, ears and lips lost or injured in battle or cuts as a punishment for adultery or robbery. He administered wine to patients before the operation as a form of anaesthesia.
