Talking too much may scuttle your US visa chances The largest single issue that causes difficulty in US visa interview process is communication skill or lack of it. And, this is experienced by many US

visa applicants from Gujarat. Majority of non-immigrant visas processed by the US Consulate in Mumbai is for Gujaratis from Gujarat. Many Gujaratis face problems because of their method of presentation and verbal as well as non-verbal communication. US immigration expert Arun Vakil analyses some of the major problems Verbal communication It is vital that you speak to-thepoint. Many have the habit of either giving more information than what is required or less information to a question asked. If you speak too much, the right information required is lost. If you speak too little, you do not give right information. Americans believe in asking specific questions and expect specific answers to what they are looking for. It also gives a professional touch in personal verbal presentation. It is therefore essential to learn the art of being specific and to-thepoint for questions asked. This would satisfy the VO and make your raise the chance of your success higher. Non-verbal communication One should stand straight, look into the eyes of the visa officer (VO), smile and greet him when first approach is made. You have to keep a safe distance between VO and yourself during the meeting. Americans do not like too much

of physical closeness with others. Of course, of late, there is a glass window that separates VO and the applicants. But, in case there is a detailed discussion requiring meeting in a room, one should keep this point in mind. If there is a possibility of shaking hands with VO, it should be firm but not too strong. A firm handshake is a sign of friendship and cordiality. Even if you are nervous in your meeting with VO, this should not be visible. You have to maintain your composure and speak effectively with a smile. This will do more than half your job. Dress well Many applicants dress shabbily, wear odd colours and have inadequately groomed hair and personal appearance. Although this is not a part of US immigration laws, your personal appearance is an important part of your personality. The VO would be happy to welcome a well-groomed and wellbehaved person to the US on non-immigrant visa if he/she meets other required conditions. Also, if you are coming from a hot climate outside and sweating, it is advisable to use talcum powder and/or perfume to avoid body odour, which can cause a repelling effect. Personal hygiene is also an important attribute of human behaviour. Send free SMS to your Friends on Mobile from your Messenger. Download Now! http://messenger./download.php
