Do you think these neurological disorders is caused from heavy metal poisoning or imbalanced detoxification pathways? If this is the case, when the pathways are balanced so oxidative stress is not present and when nourishment is presented, do you think the body can be restored and these conditions can reverse?

I often wonder if the powers that be are taking us on a wild goose chase as being in a state of oxidative stress, we become ill. Instead of looking to some genetic cause, why don't we first consider malnutrition, toxicity, low immunity, and imbalanced detoxification pathways (chemistry) causing oxidative stress. Balance, nourish and detoxify, removing oxidative stress would possibly set an environment to restore function, would you agree?

The answers are probably simple, only the real reasons of toxicity need to stay hidden as there is a lot of criminality going on with agriculture, water, air, need I say more?

Namaste,

Bethany

Dear Bethanny, I certainly do agree with you that majority of neurological disorders are caused from heavy metal poisoning and imbalanced detoxification pathway. Yet still I could strongly state that, these are not the only causes giving rise to every neurological disease. Those causes definitely include and connected to certain food, faulty life styles, diet style, eating styles, as Ayurveda strongly emphasis on this aspect If we hypothetically consider neurological disorders as an imbalanced Vata, treatment could be offered by means of various treatment modalities explained in Ayurveda to balance vata. There is another point here to mention Ayurveda uses various metallic toxic substances like arsenic, copper, lead, tin, zink etc. Theses substances systematically under go several purification methods to transform in to non-harmful and potent therapeutic status by using several herbs. These herbs can also be used to detoxify metallic

poisoning. Some of the studies on some Ayurveda herbs too suggesting their possible efficacy in nerve regeneration. . Effect of Lajjawanti (Mimosa Pudica) on Regeneration of Nerve, G.C. Prasad, R.P. Khanna, V. Prakash, & K.N. Udupa, Jur. Res. Ind. Med.10: 4, 1975 pp.37-44.

Summary: "Regeneration of peripheral nerve was studied in young growing albino rats. The sciatic nerve of each animal was crushed after help of artery forceps. They were divided in three groups containing equal number of animals and were treated either with total extract of Lajjawanti or hydrocortisone. The remaining third group were left as control. Animals were sacrificed at the intervals of 30, 60, 90 and 120 days. The process of regeneration was studied histologically, electrophysiologically, and the number of axons was also counted at each interval. The results of this experiment showed that the regeneration of the nerve was enhanced by30-40% in Lajjawanti treated animals..." Centella asiatica accelerates nerve regeneration upon oral administration and contains multiple active fractions increasing neurite elongation in-vitro Auteur(s) / Author(s) SOUMYANATH Amala ; ZHONG Yong-Ping ; GOLD Sandra A. ; XIAOLIN YU ; KOOP Dennis R. ; BOURDETTE Dennis ; GOLD Bruce G. ; Résumé / Abstract Axonal regeneration is important for functional recovery following nerve damage. Centella asiatica Urban herb, also known as Hydrocotyle asiatica L., has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries as a nerve tonic. Here, we show that Centella asiatica ethanolic extract (100 μg mL[-][1]) elicits a marked increase in neurite outgrowth in human SH-SY5Y cells in the presence of nerve growth factor (NGF). However, a water extract of Centella was ineffective at 100 μg mL[-][1]. Sub-fractions of Centella ethanolic extract, obtained through

silica-gel chromatography, were tested (100 μg mL[-][1]) for neurite elongation in the presence of NGF. Greatest activity was found with a non-polar fraction (GKF4). Relatively polar fractions (GKF10 to GKF13) also showed activity, albeit less than GKF4. Thus, Centella contains more than one active component. Asiatic acid (AA), a triterpenoid compound found in Centella ethanolic extract and GKF4, showed marked activity at 1 μM (0.5 μg mL[-][1]). AA was not present in GKF10 to GKF13, further indicating that other active components must be present. Neurite elongation by AA was completely blocked by the extracellular-signal-regulated kinase (ERK) pathway inhibitor PD 098059 (10 μM). Male Sprague-Dawley rats given Centella ethanolic extract in their drinking water (300-330 mg kg[-][1] daily) demonstrated more rapid functional recovery and increased axonal regeneration (larger calibre axons and greater numbers of myelinated axons) compared with controls,

indicating that the axons grew at a faster rate. Taken together, our findings indicate that components in Centella ethanolic extract may be useful for accelerating repair of damaged neurons.
