I saw this in one of my group digests today. Has anyone heard anything else about this?

more on this story (cross reference). I'm putting in the "Activism Alert" tonight:"To paraphrase Mark Twain: No supplements are safe when Congress is insession. And that's even true of a lame duck Congress like the onethat's now poised to sneak through a bill that can only have anegative impact on dietary supplement consumers. Senate Bill 3546 istitled Dietary Supplement and Non-Prescription Drug ConsumerProtection Act. But as any Congress watcher knows, the titles of billsare often quite deceptive. Consumer protection? If driving upsupplement prices and narrowing the field of supplement choices is'protection,' then, sure, this is a consumer protection act. "In a nutshell, S.3546 is intended to amend the Food, Drug andcosmetic Act, and would require supplement makers and manufacturers ofover the counter drugs to report serious adverse events linked to theuse of their products. To begin with, this change would be yet anotherstep toward regulating supplements the same way pharmaceuticals areregulated. In other words: A win for drug companies. Secondly, S.3546would create yet another level of bureaucracy and red tape, and theaccompanying expenses would put additional financial burdens onsupplement makers. This might drive some smaller companies out ofbusiness, while larger companies might be forced to increase prices tocover the additional expense. "What's most annoying about this bill is that it's completelyunnecessary, because without it, consumers and their doctors willsimply do what they already do: Report adverse events directly to theFDA. I hope you'll take a moment to contact your state senators andask them to vote NO on S.3546. You can find easy access to e-mailaddresses and phone numbers for all senators and representatives onthe web site Contacting the Congress, which you'll find here:visi.com/juan/congress/ ..."To Your Good Health, Jenny ThompsonHealth Sciences Institute

I'd do some research since I could not find anything recent searching CAFTA, CODEX, Vitamins, etc. Including government sites and anti-Cafta sites. The latter might answer emails. Considering that lobbying against vitamin regulation was the fiercest grassroots lobbying against a proposed bill (until this spring's attempt to make illegal aliens felons anyway), all hell will break lose if this is true. ALSO even the major media would have to report on it.CM> If you want to write something up on this you can have space on next> week's Medical Freedom Channel, instead of my having to cobble up> another editorial. - Steve> > Julius wrote:
