Guest guest
Dear Ray, About research Dr Praful Barvalia MD (Hom) in India is conducting research in difficult children. His organisation is SPANDAN at Mumbai. spandan . Website http://www.holisticfoundation.org/ . I too personally feel that ADHD requires a multi disciplinary approach considering that it is not a naturally happening phenomenon. What could be the causes of ADHD? 1. Could run in the family, 2. Tension/anxiety in the mother while pregnant, lack of rest, nutrition, 3. Inadequate breastfeeding, two years is what the holistic healers prescribe, 4. Lack of nutrition for the mother and baby, 5. Chemical drugs during pregnancy, breastfeeding, 6. Vaccines to the pregnant mother and child, 7. Complicated delivery, use of fork, 8. Presence of worms and parasites in the gut of the child. This is a very important factor. 9. Digestive disturbances, constipation etc. 10. Tubercular disposition, vaccine induced or running in the family. A child suffering from frequent colds will be a very distracted child. 11. Lack of parental discipline, 12. Lack of spiritual education. This is all I can think of right now. If only we could give proper rest, nutrition and loving care to the pregnant mother, ensure a chemical free pregnancy, natural childbirth, prolonged breastfeeding, healthy organic food and holistic care during infancy, and bring up the child in a healthy environment then the alarming rise in children with ADHD all over the globe could be stemmed. Not only are we pushing deadly chemicals into children but also, as pointed out by Sri Arun Shrivastava, our food today is awfully lacking in vital nutrients due to intensive farming that has sucked all nutrients from the soil. It is no wonder that the children are facing so many difficulties. In case of children already afflicted, 1. Vit C, at least 500mg per day to detoxify and strengthen immunity. Vit A, E, K and B Complex to be also considered. 2. Homeopathic medicines like Merc Sol, Alumina, Hepar Sulph, Thuja, Medorrhinum, Rhus Glabra, etc as per symptoms to destroy the toxic effects of vaccines, 3. Cina/Teucrium/Natrum Phos 6x etc. for worms in the guts of the child, if present, 4. Brahmi, Sankhapushpi, Tagara, etc to boost memory and calm the child, 5. Alfalfa, spirulina supplement to supply basic nutrients, 6. Biochemic combination Five Phos 6x, two tablets thrice daily, for essential salts. 7. Anti tubercular treatment if latent tuberculosis suspected. Homeopathic remedies like Tuberculinum, Natrum Mur, Bacillinum, Calcarea Phos, Iodinum, etc. 8. Use of probiotics like curd, 9. Yoga and pranayama to boost health and mental alacrity, 10. Participating in bhajans/prayer to calm down the mind, 11. Restricting TV access, to the extent possible, if it is distracting the child, 12. Discipline combined with loving attention for the child, All the above are of course is a general discussion, the parents should consult qualified doctors. Regards, Jagannath. Posted by: "raynoronha" raynoronha raynoronha Thu Oct 26, 2006 12:58 am (PST) Hi,I am an Ayurveda practitioner. I am investigating treatments for ADHD. I have only ever given Brahmi successfully to a 5 year old child who previously only had signs of inattention and his symptoms disappeared in 4 weeks with Brahmi. I think the answer may lie in a combination of a herb/ homepathic remedy plus yoga/pranayama therapy. However, when we look at the symptoms of ADHD i.e. hyperactivity, inattention, lack of concentration, impulsivity, from my experience many children present some of these symptoms but not all. So I was after ideas what herbs would be given for each symptom i.e.hyperactivity, inattention, lack of concentration, impulsivity. Naturally diet has to be regulated, and research from the Indian Research Council shows that ADHD is half of that in the west. I also think Jagnnath's comments on childhood vaccine is a serious concern. However I was wondering if there is any reccommendations and/or research evidence regarding homeopathic/ naturopathy remedies. Thanks in advanceRay After all, they (the pro-vaccine lobbyists) say to themselves, you can't make an omelette withoutbreaking eggs. But the eggs being broken are small, helpless, and innocent babies, while the omelette is being enjoyed by the pediatricians and vaccine manufacturers. - Harris L. Guest guest
hello there i would also consider some " social " causes on top of all the excellent causes that jagganath has put forward. i do think that jagganath's ideas are the more important and weightier factors and i do not consider social pressure to " cause " add, it's more that i think it exacerbates a pre-existing condition (which is perhaps not in itself an evil) to become an intolerable condition. whereas even someone like sriramakrishna could have been considered " add inattentive " for example, the problem for many US children, it can seem, is also a large amount of stress and pressure to conform from an extremely early age - to a norm. and this " norm " seems to get narrower by the day. perhaps in the past (and equally in some other groups - such as Amish) to be exuberant and filled with energy was seen as an asset or equally to be dreamy and slightly spiritual... now it is not, the ideal is to be able to sit still in class and listen and use ones brain not ones braun or intuition... but not every child is an intellectual and the constant repitition that you are being " naughty " or you are not being good when all you are doing is expressing your personality type - must be very damaging and confusing to a young child. the pressure that you are " disappointing " your parents and they are " worrying " about you, the disapproval and annoyance of the teachers --- where is the positive input to help you develop a natural healthy confidence and self-esteem? i don't know enough about ADHD but there are often mentioned many positives which come with it - which include intense creative ability, spiritual insight and even genius... in some rare cases. when we consider artistic geniuses of the past such as Van Gogh or Mozart their personalities were not easy, their lives were made hard due to their inability to control their impulses and the social difficulties they had in making friends etc. etc. but i don't believe that either of them would have chosen to swap their gift for a life more ordinary, more conformist. Einstein's parents originally thought that he was retarded - but it didn't worry them, they were happy with him exactly as he was and didn't try to " change or fix " him - fortunately for modern physics! i suppose i don't exactly see ADHD as a disability more just a different way of being - not better necessarily or worse than " normal " but perhaps more challenging for both the child and the parents - particularly in today's society but equally so in the past. but i worry that the way we choose to address it in current society - labelling and stigmatising and constantly fighting it actually makes the condition far WORSE. the social conditions that people with ADHD (who have always existed in the past) have to conform to in this day and age --- the pressure and importance of the intellect above all, the seeming preference of brains over goodness or kindness or strength or courage or any other attribute - makes it twice as hard for an ADHD child. and the more damaged their self-esteem, the more dysfunctional they will become. that perhaps in amish communities where, peculiarly, there might actually be more tolerance for differences within a tighter structure - and less isolation, pressure and unnatural living circumstances an ADHD child can actually thrive and be a fundamental, vital part of his/her community which we all need to feel. all the best elly
