Guest guest
Oops..sorry. We're in Nashville TN..the US...thannks! Kim Since this author does not know which country you reside, he wont suggest earthen pot which is one water filter used in india by large number of people. on the other hand a better way of ensuring killing pathogens is to use copper or brass water pot. further details of this method are discussed at:http://health.ayurveda/message/2201if you store well water in copper pot for at least 12 hours, it will be fit for drinking, without removing local minerals. these minerals are an advantage of well water over city supply water. Guest guest
The Berkey gravity filter system is also very good. It is a two filter system that filters pond water if that is all that is available. It is portable, and reasonably priced. This company also has shower filters. There is an ad link for them at www.rbnlive.com Bethany - Shirish Bhate Thursday, October 19, 2006 4:18 AM Re: [HealthyIndia] best water filter? Guest guest
Water purification systems for domestic use are: - Earthen pitcher filled up with (from bottom to top) pebbles/charcoal pieces/sand. Add a pinch of alum whenever you fill up the pitcher with raw water. Requires periodic cleaning and replacement of the contents. Ceramic candles. Water trickles through them using gravity. Boiling the water. Zeolite water softener. Ultraviolet tube post mechanical filter. Some use activated charcoal also to remove odour. Reverse osmosis followed by re-mineralisation. Distillation followed by re-mineralisation. The exact method to use depends upon quality of the water. Bacterial count (determined by a simple kit for faecal matter), temporary and permanent hardness, arsenic and fluorine content have to be taken care of. Generally the safest water is spring water followed by well water (free of contaminants), river water and ponds. In case of arsenic contamination, well water is to be avoided. Can contact me for further elucidation. Rajinder - Bethany Thursday, October 19, 2006 6:21 PM Re: [HealthyIndia] best water filter?
