The process is known medically as atherosclerosis. Beating a dead horse, cardiologists confidently describe atherosclerosis as a plumbing problem: Fat and cholesterol-laden gunk gradually builds up within the arteries. Guest guest
It is a good article, Jag. I have a few things to add about AGEs. Are you familar with the supplements Alpha Lipoic Acid, Acetyl L-Carnatine, and Benfortiamine? http://www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/alpha-lipoic-acid.html http://alobar.livejournal.com/1038393.html The use of these 3 supplements (plus taking vitamin C to bowel tolerance) is a very good combination for getting rid of Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) from the body. Personally, I found my mind sharpening up, and I became far better able to make self-observations about what various supplements and dietary changes were doing for me. I also found myself getting more adventurous and not doing the patterns I normally do. To quote info on Benfotiamine which I posted to my blog post above: " Advanced Glycation End products, or 'AGEs' as they're appropriately called, are the end result of the complex chemical process through which the structure of proteins is warped by exposure to sugars or by other, much more reactive molecules. AGE chemistry is the cause of the " browning " you see when you roast a chicken or make toast, but the same 'browning' chemistry is at work in your body every day of your life. In your arteries. In your kidneys. In your heart, your eyes, your skin, your nerves. In every cell, the sugar that your body uses for fuel is busily at work at this very moment, caramelizing your body through exactly the same chemical processes that caramelize onions or peanut brittle. Guest guest
Correction on my previous post. I mis-spelled Acetyl L-Carnitine, and Benfotiamine. The article about high blood sugar being a big danger because of AGEs. While I agree, I also feel the need to add that diabetics who take diabetic drugs which boost insulin levels cause themselves heart attacks because high insulin is rather corrosive to arterial linings. The diabetic drugs do not deal with insulin resistance at the cellular level. They just increase how much insulin the pancreas puts out. So one can be a diabetic with good blood glucose control, and still be in danger from heart attack. No references handy right now, but I have read that the kind of fats one eats determines how one's cell membranes are built in the body. Eating the wrong fats leads to insulin resistance. Getting lots of healthy saturated fats and Omega 3 oils has helped me with my insulin resistance, as have the various diabetic supplements I take and eating a low carb diet, and I am able to keep good blood glucose control through diet and supplements without taking diabetic drugs. 5 years ago, my fasting blood glucose was over 360. I was 56. The doc told me that at my age with that high a fasting blood glucose level, I would never be able to control blood glucose without taking diabetic meds. Now it is down to under 110 with no meds. Alobar On 9/23/06, Alobar <alobar wrote: > It is a good article, Jag.
