Can you please throw some > light on this point? Salt and milk are said to be > " viruddha " food items i.e. incompatible. Dear Acharyaji Learning, understanding and practicing ayurveda of Samhitas is one end, while practicing " Home " ayurveda by way of home remedies, folk remedies is another. all those who originated home remedies either tried by some " hunch " or had " gift " of lord. Second point is understanding healing principles as against ayurveda of samhitas are two different entities. Many a time Vaidyas are confused by approaches of " yogis " , for instance the controversy on use of large dose of Godanti Bhasma and Praval Pishti (proposed by Baba Ramdev on TV) created by " Rasvaidya Gunjan Thakur " on ayurveda list. Such large dose has been used by this author frequently for a short while without any damage. see : http://health.ayurveda/message/7272 Let us now turn to your question. Baba Ramdev is right, milk is incompatbile with salt as well as Jaggery. This author has used both these incompatibilities for curing dry cough in children, a live example of which is available on ayurveda with patient's testimonial too! http://health.ayurveda/message/5608 http://health.ayurveda/message/5629 http://health.ayurveda/message/5637 The approach surprised a Canadian herbalist of good repute and author of a good book too! He also thought milk is an allergen. Allergen treating and curing allergy! Is not villagers remedies more wonderful than all neat and systematic theories of ayurveda? Let us see how these work. In a number of posts on ayurveda, author has brought out exceptions in ayurveda, e.g. Green unripe Tamarind is a pitta enhancer while ripened soaked tamarind pacifies pitta. Just as a grandma is soothing to a child when mother is angry! Same thing true for unripe green mango and ripened sweet mango. Maturity changes guna of a herb. Battering against odds in life makes man too satvik, soul seeking rather than material seeking. Let us come to familar ground of chamelion science. Milk, after boiling with ginger powder+turmeric for 20-30 minutes, after adding 1 tsp ghee does not remain the milk which causes allergy, or one which has typical fats and proetins of raw milk. Now most fats and proteins have absorbed " agni " by boiling and the " casein " in milk is now easily digestible. If you actyually do this experiemnet, you will see that milk does not show the same behaviour after adding ghee and just 2 pinches of salt, as it would show if it was not boiled with ginger+turmeric for a long time and ghee added. The milk boiled becomes almost " basundi " . Here, when apparently incompatible substances are added a " poison " is produced and on homeopathic principle of " likes " destroys poison trapped inside the mucous, the dead bodies of allergens. True, milk and salt is " virudh " but the presence of other items and boiling now reduces there " enemity " so milk does not separate from whey. On the other hand this mixture breaks/dilutes solid mucous in digestive track, which body was " coughing " to remove.Acc. to Indian philosophy, when people sit together in presence of " agni " , all become friendly and decide to remain life time friends. It is only in India that marriages are formalized in presence of " agni " . There is so much similarity in our all customs and ayurvedic procedures. Incidently, it is to be noted that in the case of 2.5 year boy refered in above ayurveda messages, instead of milk, jaggery was used. In case of children jaggery is better while edlers, salt should be used. This is all " Grandma ayurveda " not from standard texts. One more kindness of God needs to mentioned. Sept. October is the period of " Pitta " diseases. It is also the season when Guava is available plenty in hot regions of India. Use of Guava for attacking Migrain caused by heat, see the tribal remedy at: http://health.ayurveda/message/1530 God has provided natural single herb or fruit remedies very near to the diseases, which tribals and grandmas understand well and we only notice why Gunjan Thakur, Bhate and Baba Ramdev preach differently.
