Importance of keeping the colon healthy.

The problem lies in the loss of a healthy balance of friendly bacteria (probiotics) in the body. One school of thought holds that ill health begins in the colon through a process of "auto-intoxication" whereby waste products and toxins from the colon seep into the bloodstream and initiate disease. Bacteria are responsible for every major function in living organisms, for instance: Breaking down nutrients so they are more easily assimilated.

Keeping the colon clean and healthy. Cleaning cholesterol out of the blood. Lowering the pH of their environment by converting sugar to lactic acid, which inhibits the growth of some pathogens. Once harmful toxin-producing bacteria and fungi take over in your gastrointestinal tract, your immune system becomes compromised. Some negative health affects

from a loss of probiotics include *: Overgrowth of detrimental, disease-causing bacteria and yeasts such as Clostridium dificile, Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, Yersinia enterocolitica, etc. Production of endotoxins in the GI Tract contributing to lupus erythematosus, psoriasis and other skin conditions. Allows partially digested proteins to enter the bloodstream contributing to eczema, nervous system

disorders, rheumatoid arthritis and a variety of immune system disorders. GI tract problems such as leaky bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, IBS, etc. are contributed to by loss of probiotics and appearance of detrimental bacteria. Specific strains of detrimental bacteria may cause health problems. For example, E. coli may lead to problems with insulin and blood sugar function. Yersinia enterocolitica produces substances which cause the over-production of thyroid hormone. This detrimental bacteria can also contribute to autoimmune diseases. Combined with exposure to stress, toxic chemicals, antibiotics, steroidal drugs and carcinogenic substances, it's no wonder we spend billions of dollars on drugs and doctors to fix what ails us. Probiotics also help us to utilize certain minerals, essentail for

several chemical actions in body, the most important being Calcium,

magnesium and phosphorous. To absorb these probiotics are essential.

Respected Dr Bhate,

 

You are very correct. The intestines are for assimilation and if we

don't care for them we loose out heavily.

 

In tuberculosis patients we see malnutrition and we also see chronic

diarrhoea/dysentery which signifies that the intestines are not

functioning properly leading to loss of assimilation. The

practitioner should attend to this aspect first as just feeding the

patient nutritious food will not serve any purpose.

 

How can ayurveda help? What are the ayurvedic probiotics?
