Your mentioning good uses of mercury in ayurveda brought in following

additiional info.

This site tells us the Tantric background on which use of

Mercury and Sulphur is based.

This link tells us how toxicity of mercury is killed by using

sulphur producing many drugs of importance. The history of Rasshatra

is also given. The medicines made from Kajjali give very fast

results, and if you go through archieves of ayurveda group that

one of the ingredient suggested in

the formulation for `Premature Ovarian Failure' was Kajjali. Its

importance in ayurveda is as much as `Suvarna Bhasma', used

in all pain reliver medicines used in Arthritis , in Asthmatic

breathing difficulties, menses problems, etc, etc.

Mercury was brought into ayurveda by religious physolophy, which

stands on the experience of even todays human existence.

Many important rasshatra medicines which are used for chronic and painful

disorders are treated by using Mercury in purified form along with

Sulphur. Their results are fast.

But it is also necessary to take them with proper anupana: honey or

ghee+sugar (not refined sugar, but crystal sugar). And since overdosage can be

dangerous, better to take them under supervision of a Vaidya, who can warn the

patient before any damage occurs.

The author is curious to know whether siddha practitioners use these

mercury based medicines for children.
