Everyone needs to take personal responsibility for their own health. We must become educated medical consumers. Unfortunately, we get smart too late. We tend to trust those we believe are trained to care for us. I have met many doctors who became disgusted with traditional medicine and turned to alternative medicine and had much better luck in healing their patients. Most alternative treatments are not covered by medical insurance and people want cheap medicine. I guess like everything else, you get what you pay for.

MDs really want to practise medicine - I'd say they would not dare jeopardise this by questioning any connection between vaccination and autism - if they can think that far.

We can use religion here too to avoid things like the dreaded killer vaccine

Jane dear, All illness has meaning for the person who experiences it. We may not know this and seek to "heal", and thus cut the ground from under his/her feet. I knew this guy who came from a family of diamond merchants. He could not live up to the fame of his father and father-in-law. He could not succeed and became alcoholic. He was surrounded by loving mother, wife, sisters, etc. Why would he WANT to heal?Jane MacRoss <HIGHFIELD wrote: MDs really want to practise medicine - I'd say they would not dare jeopardise this by questioning any connection between vaccination and autism - if they can think that far.

IMHO... if doctors are unwilling to jeopardize their positions and paychecks by ignoring much of what is trying to be told to them, they don't really want to practice medicine... unless the practice of medicine means ''do what you are told and don't ask questions''. To me this isn't helping patients, it is simply staying in the graces of the status quo.

I have had results beyond what the physical therapists could do, and helped people avoid surgeries, reduced pain so pain meds could be stopped, only to be banned from helping more of their patients. This leave me with little respect for those in that profession who are so arrogant to their way being the only way, barring patients from their choice of finding and receiving effective help for their situation... Is that practicing medicine or making money?

Those doctors who are allowing and encouraging alternative modalities are the ones who are practicing medicine (imho) and are concerned with the well being of their patient... unfortunately those doctors, my experience has shown, are in the minority.

It seems there is always excuses made to allow others to remain irresponsible. Same goes for the excuses given to our politicians and judges.

I attended a patient with "Motor Neurone Disease" recently - he had been addicted to Diet Coke for years and years and NEVER drank water. Even as an RN I can demand that my patients drink more water (or SOME water) and go and buy them some that tastes more acceptable than the chlorinated liquid that comes out of suburban taps. Even the next day he felt better and had more energy. But this may detract from the importance he felt at being the victim of a PROFESSOR having been in management for years and years also himself and being a pretty important person - will he have the strength of character to fight back? He may want to die a martyr.

You have to frighten people to get them to act.

Taking advantage of every opportunity always helps.

Best,

Jane
