Guest guest
An excerpt: " Animal sacrifice in the Vedas is symbolic in nature and actual victims were rarely used. Just as the Vedic human sacrifice is a symbol for the offering of the ego to the Divine, so the animal sacrifice symbolizes offering our vital nature to the Divine. " 'The rice cake which is offered is the victim which is killed; its chaff is the hair, the husks the skin, the polishing the blood, the pounded grains and fragments the flesh, whatever is substantial the bone. With the sap of all animals he sacrifices who sacrifices with rice cake.' (Aitareya Brahmana II.9.) [...] " - Frawley, David; " Gods, Sages and Kings " , Passage Press, 1991. Guest guest
The items to be offered as stated in Bhagwad Gita are only symbolic in the same tune. For instance, the items refrred in 9.26 Whosoever offers Me a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water with devotion; I accept and eat the offering of devotion by the pure- hearted. (9.26) leaf, flower fruit or water, Lord created all those. when we offer what he has created, what great we do? nothing. The spiritual meaning has to be clearly understood. In addition to 4 natural vegetarian items, fifth item lord wants which is " devotion " or offer with your mind inside it. This means lord wants our mind also along with 4 other things. Now some Gurus interpret it this way: Total 5 items means our five senses, panchendriyas, which include senses and mind which receives signals from senses and enjoys or feels grief. Once you offer mind to lord, no more either happiness out of senses or grief out of pains. What about heart? Most of us agree mind and heart are different. Men decide by mind, women by heart! So lord wishes that mind you offer to him, and heart you keep with you if it is " pure " ! This is just anopther twist to hidden meanings in old sanskrit texts! , Jyotishi <jyotish2000 wrote: > > An excerpt: > > " Animal sacrifice in the Vedas is > symbolic in nature and actual victims > were rarely used.
