Guest guest
Namaste,I fully agree that one should not take non-vegetarian food and one can really do without it. However probably in the ancient days it was sometimes relaxed for medical reasons. We read in some puranas that when a rishi got emaciated very much he used to go to king's place for nourishing food and the king gave him good food including meat. But I do not have the references with me now to quote.Lord Buddha also did not oppose meat eating by his monk provided the animal was not killed specifically for the monk and the monk did see the killing of the animal or did not hear the death-cry of the animal. It is believed that one should not hate meat as the soul of the animal who has been made to sacrifice its body feels sad if one despises the meat yet at the sametime one should not hanker for meat.Regards,SKBJagannath Chatterjee <jagchat01 wrote: WHY HINDUS DON'T EAT MEATBesides being an expression of compassion for animals, vegetarianism is followed for ecological and healthrationales

Guest guest
Namste,Sorry . There was a slip in typing. It should be "and the monk did not see the killing of the animal" in place of "and the monk see the killing of the animal."Regards,SKBSunil Bhattacharjya <sunil_bhattacharjya wrote: Namaste,I fully agree that one should not take non-vegetarian food and one can really do without it.
