Guest guest
Here is an easy and effective technique used in thought field therapy(TFT), that is good for anxiety:http://www.fsu.edu/~trauma/a2v5i4.htmoften we feel anxious because we forgetwe forget the love that our life is, that this world is, and itdarkens the mind so that all our actions and the actions of otherseem evil and full of pain - but this is an illusion that must beovercome, everydayto counter this, practice metta bhavana (meditation on loving kindness):Sit in meditative position, breathe in and out, and imagine a glowingpin-point of pink light emanating from your heart. With each breathimagine that this light is slowly getting larger, pulsing with eachbreath, eventually permeating your body with this light. Know thatthis light the love in your heart, and is endless, timeless and verymuch belongs to you. Feeling this light permeating your body, saturating every cell of your body with the love and light of yourheart, repeat to yourself:'May I be happy. May I be free from suffering, free from anger, freefrom hatred and free from scorn. May I live and peace and safety andbe surrounded by love. May I be happy.'Still feeling this limitless pink light emanating from your heart, direct it to someone you love. Create an image of this person inyour mind, direct this loving light energy to them, imagining that itpermeates their being, and say:'May ____ be happy. May ____ be free from suffering, free fromanger, free from hatred and free from scorn. May ____ live and peaceand safety and be surrounded by love. May ____ be happy.'Now direct this energy to an acquaintance, someone you know, but nottoo well. Create an image of this person in your mind, direct thisloving light energy to them, imagining it permeate their being, and say:'May ____ be happy. May ____ be free from suffering, free fromanger, free from hatred and free from scorn. May ____ live and peaceand safety and be surrounded by love. May ____ be happy.'Now direct this energy to someone you have had a difficult time with, someone you dislike or has caused you some kind of pain. Create animage of this person in your mind, direct this loving light energy tothem, imagining it permeate their being, and say:'May ____ be happy. May ____ be free from suffering, free fromanger, free from hatred and free from scorn. May ____ live and peaceand safety and be surrounded by love. May ____ be happy.'Now imagine this endless pink light of love that emanates from yourheart radiating to the four corners of the universe. Even though itis difficult, imagine the myriad beings in the myriad worlds, andhold the immensity of this in your mind, and allow the eternal, endless light of your heart to permeate to the universe, filling eachbeing with happiness and joy, and state:'May all beings be happy. May all beings be free from suffering, free from anger, free from hatred and free from scorn. May allbeings live and peace and safety and be surrounded by love. May allbeings be happy.'When you are done, with each breathe, imagine this light folding backinto your heart, a pin point of pink light that forever rests in yourheart, the same light that exists in all hearts. Know that thislight is forever with you and allow it to influence all yourthoughts, speech and actions.***i found an interesting article i thought would make a good read, onthe subject of happinessit is interesting to contemplate how the desire for the westernlifestyle is creating a new style of western disease in India:http://www.stephen-knapp.com/are_you_really_happy.htm***herbal-wise, i have used a fresh tincture of anenome in anxiety, 3drops in water as needed - it reduces vata (fear and anxiety)an effective ayurvedic herb is ashwagandha, as it reduces vata andcalms the nervous system - but it works better over the longer term***as a last point, i would disagree with jane that eating meat or fishmakes one more anxiousfear is most closely associated with vata, and meat/fish can be veryeffective to reduce vatathere is nothing in ayurveda that says these foods cause fear, and infact, just the opposite impression is leftperhaps the idea is that these animals die in state of fear and thisquality is transferred to the humanin fact, all living things want to live, from the grass on the frontlawn, to the carrot pulled out of the ground, and the fish on afishing linebut this idea, taken to the logical extreme, does not support health, and unless the goal is truly founded upon the highest aspirations, which laughs in the face of death, it does do nothing except createdoubt and confusionwhatever you eat, do it mindfully and do it with love - give humblethanks to the creator for this bounty, and the being that wassacrificed to nourish your body - water, mineral, air, bacteria, plant, fungus, animal - it is just one thing, and one things only:brahmarpanam brahma havirbrahmagnau brahmana hutambrahmaiva tena ghantavyambrahmakarma samadhinahathe act of offering is God, the offering itself is Godby God it is offered into the fire of GodGod is That which is to be attained by himwho sees God in Allbest... todd caldecottTodd Caldecotttoddwww.toddcaldecott.com "Our ideal is not the spirituality that withdraws from life but the conquest of life by the power of the spirit." - Aurobindo.
