:Shree Hari:Baisakh Krishna Navami, Vikram Samvat 2063, Shanivar 22nd April, 2006, SaturdayRam RamGist of the pravachan given by Swami Ramsukhdasji on 18.1.1999 at 5 a.m:For all those who want to realise God - it is most important to renounce what is prohibited. Renunciation of what is prohibited is more necessary than doing what is prescribed and permitted. We pay more attention in what is to be done but along with that we also continue doing what should not be done. This is the reason why we do not benefit from what we do. [You are taking medicines for your illness and along with that you are also taking what the doctor has prohibited. Will you recover?] Renounce what is prohibited. You will naturally do what is prescribed. You will naturally attain God. The result of the renunciation can be felt in the present.Renounce The ProhibitedWe usually pay more attention to what is permitted than to what is prohibited. We are engrossed

in doing the things that are prescribed and permitted like name chanting, meditation, prayer, etc. But what is lacking and what is more important is the renunciation of what is prohibited. Along with the permitted we are also doing what is prohibited. We do satsang but we do not seem to be progressing - why? The main reason is that we do not leave what is prohibited. In fact it is not as important to do what is prescribed and permitted as it is to not do what is prohibited. Till you do not leave what should not to be done, it is very difficult to progress. If you leave doing what should not be done, what is prohibited, you will not have to 'do' what is permitted, it will naturally happen. You pay attention to prayer, etc but do not pay attention in not telling lies, in being dishonest, in cheating, in hurting people, etc. If we do anything wrong, we try our best to hide it - so that no one finds out about it. This harms us even more. Our benefit is not in doing

this. In the first instance we should do nothing that we have to hide. That we cannot tell anyone about. God realisation is not difficult. He is everywhere and at all times. Lord Ram asked Sage Valmiki 'where should I stay?' Sage Valmiki replied that first you say where are you not present, then I shall tell you where to stay. So, God is everywhere. It is more important to renounce the prohibited than to do the permitted to realise God. You have taken the support of lies, cheating, tax evasion, dishonesty, etc. You feel that in today's world you cannot survive without cheating. This is the main reason that you do not progress. Sins and lies are increasing. If you sow seeds in a field with weeds, there will be no growth. You have to clean the field first. Similarly, you do good deeds but you do not take out the weeds from inside you. How will you benefit from your actions? It is more important to renounce the prohibited than to do the permitted. People

think of us as good or bad, it makes no difference to our spiritual progress. You have to renounce what is prohibited. There is a chapter written by Sethji called 'God Attainment by Renunciation.' In it the first thing that has to be renounced are prohibited actions. Doing the prohibited is very dangerous. It is not as dangerous in not doing the permitted. You will benefit by doing the permitted but you will not see the result immediately. By renunciation of the prohibited the result is seen in the present.Ram RamFor full pravachans in Hindi please visit www.swamiramsukhdasji.org "Our ideal is not the spirituality that withdraws from life but the conquest of life by the power of the spirit." - Aurobindo.
