But it isn't subsistence to grow your own - it is the best way - it feeds the soul then as well as the stomach. It gives the responsibility back to the individual.

"Subsistence" implies poverty, growing your own is returning the wealth to the individual, organic is returning the wealth to the individual and to the soil.

Probably 40 years ago or more I had a dream one night that the only people who were to survive this life were those who grew their own vegetables.

When I was a child we always ate everything out of the garden - fruit and vegetables - bliss compared to the present day trend of buying everything from the supermarket.

Fortunately the "fashion" to grow your own is increasing very fast in many areas, not only here but all over the world.

{Spam?} RE: Organic

Organic food is produced in India by poorest people who cannot even afford any chemical based fertilizers and pesticides. Many areas in so called undeveloped India, have maintained farming by natural means, composting and growing vegetables and cereals. In north east, in Orrisa and Bengal, there are farmers who never used chemicals in field. Farmers by error (using chemicals) are getting money by killing others.

Very recently, one of my friends sold his house in Delhi and with that money, purchased approx 10 acres of farmland in Haryana where he produces own food, and he is now independent from rest of the world. He does not sell the production neither he buys outside food. All products are used by staff, animals, and home owner. Same is case with my parents who have similar arrangement.

Are we returning to our age old subsistence life?
